The mix of patterns seem mild compared to what I saw in this month's Better Home and Gardens (bought a subscription via a relative's childs school project ) Every page had such a mishmash of patterns and colors it almost made me dizzy.
@stevieb I see some of the 70's in this pic. Of course everything old is new again--the saying goes.

@stevieb I also forgot to mention the awful shag rug we had. Hold it... it was a blue color that was in the house we bought, the only thing I can say that thing wore like iron. DH said he'd replace it when it wore out..LOL

I'd keep the sofa and plant. With some accessory changes, I think it can be brought back in style.

Oh yeah....floral curtains were the ones to have, as were the greens, golds and a bit of orange. Woven wall hangings and macrame plant hangers....and of course green plants everywhere! I don't quite understand the comments here about what changes would make the room more likeable or liveable now, though! LOL - not really the point of this post!

IMO, this is inspired by the 70's and updated. Macrame is back, terrariums & house plants are back, and orange is back ... for now.
I saw a couple of palm curtains similar to those in the posted picture while I was window treatment shopping online.
@Desert Lily Exactly! Avocado green, harvest told and rusty orange. My mom bought a long green and orange/rust carpet. It was hideous. It lasted maybe 6 months and she had it ripped out.

70's??? Really? This lovely room doesn't look anything like how I decorated in the 70's. 70's decorating was garish, this living room is lovely,

I like the sofa, pillows, plants, end table, and lamp.
I would replace the wall hanging, drapes, rug, and coffee table with items I prefer.
It's somewhat 70s inspired. The drapes, wall hanging, and coffee table have that vibe. My memories of a 70s living room would be shag carpeting and granny circle afghans on dark brown or bold print sofas.

I guess someone tried to re-create the 70s look with what's available today.
The couch looks so now (I don't care for them, but grey couches are popular) and I think that's what throwing *viewers* off.![]()
But they used the orange, the greens, the plants, the macrame and that awful goldtone glass top table. I remember the cheap goldtone tables, they tarnished when you used windex on them.
Stick a bentwood rocker in the corner and --- you're back in the 70s.

I still have an avocado hand mixer, use it all the time!
I remember coppertone and almond too, but don't know if they were from the 70s or 80s. I really liked the almond color!
