I live in a townhouse attached to other townhomes on both sides. Twice a year, for the last four years, I have had termites. I have a contract with an exterminator. I was told that I need to be tented to end the problem. My neighbors on each side say that they do not have termites and are not interested in being tented. Any solutions to this issues?

You need to discuss this with your management company at once.  In our townhouses we have people that come and take care of these issues, it comes out of our dues.  Rules can vary in HOA's but everyone has to comply and  with termites they may have them as they certainly do spread, they may just not see them!  Best of luck.

Your neighbors only THINK they don't have termites.  Denial isn't just a river....

Are you sure they are termites and not swarmers?  We had swarmers.  Swarmers are harmless but it means termites are nearby.  You can google it.  We had an exterminator out for something else and he found termites.  Since he's treated the swarmers have been next to nil.  He will come back next month to check the traps and see if they worked or if we need to treat again.

Swarmers look like tiny black ants with long white or clear wings, longer than their body.  The wings fall off, they die and you're left with dead bugs to sweep up.  They get in through cracks and crevices by the hundreds and are dead within an hour.

In Arizona there are two types of houses. Those that have termites and those that will have termite sometime.

Thanks for your reply. We pay for our own exterminating.

We also live in Arizona...I agree...We have had termites.  We were treated and They didn't come back (as far as we knew.)  we sold that house a couple years later.

You definitely have to get the HOA involved.  And make sure you do have termites.  If you do....your neighbors will or very soon will have them.  My bet they already do have them  they just don't know it yet.

Due to the invasive nature of termites, it is extremely hard to believe your townhouse is the only one affected.

It is great you have protection for your home.  Living in the middle means your neighbors should protect their homes now, or ALL will be dealing with termite issues for years to come.  Even at todays prices, a simple termite inspection and treatment will be much cheaper than tearing down the entire townhouse and rebuilding from the ground up due to termite damage, which is usually not covered under homeowners insurance.

My husband found termites in our crawl space about 6 years or so after we built the house.  They were just coming out of the ground, there was no damage to our floor joists.  Within a few days we had our pest control people here for an aggressive treatment, and have had yearly inspections since.  We had an additional treatment when we built on to the house.  3 years ago, our pest control company notified us that the chemicals used in our initial treatment were considered ineffective after 20+ years, suggesting we do a repeat treatment to the crawl space.  When I called the company, the treatment was offered to us for the same price we paid initially, so we had the house retreated with the current chemicals being used for termites.  We are doing our best to protect our home.

@Miami Spices  I too live in Florida.  No, they do not tent anymore for the most part.  I'm not sure unless your in a mansion.

However sorry for your problem and yes, if you have them then your neighbor's most likely you  will too.

I don't know what some are talking about here but a termite infestation is not hard to notice.  They will swarm in night time and you can see them on your counters in bathrooms in the morning. Ugh......all over the place dead bugs with little wings. No doubt about  them.

Well, long story short, Our neighbors had them in a separated home (separated)  4,000 square feet.  It came to us.  On second floor we had termites, they treated but a year later they came back.  Treated again.

I've seen trucks meaning termite trucks on the block and I guess they move from home to home.

Best to get your neighbors involved via the termite experts.  Best of luck.  They love the heat and humidity.

Please keep your A/C cold inside home.  No open windows.

Fortunately we don't have an HOA. Our neighbors told us we have them. Got it treated and we have an annual inspection to make sure they don't come back.
