TRADITIONAL NEW YORK APARTMENT AWAITS HOLIDAYS

[ Edited ]

Have posted the work of designer Philip Thomas in the past, but not how he does his own family home for Christmas.

He's an outright traditionalist, and 'maximalist', which is a little too much for me, but I love to be a spectator in such "glam" houses!

Side note:  I was showing hubby the decorations, which he approved, but as soon as he saw the "scribble" design dining room walls, visible through these doors, he said "nix",  ha.  I think they're fun, but personally wouldn't choose that bold of a pink background....

Those crazy graffiti walls are linen, that has been painted with the abstract scribbles.

Apparently, he lived in this apartment with his parents as a child, and now his family just continues the traditions....  His tree has their old, sometimes kitschy ornaments from the past-- note the cute Santa's elf.  I like that.

In the video, he describes his holiday colors as gold, cream and pink.  I love the way he has his glittery gold garland of balls just casually hanging down from the mantel.

More of that soft pink.

The guy seems to have an affinity for the most beautiful rugs.

Tea in the Christmas library.  Red walls are not my favorite, but when they're broken up by books and fabulous art, I can feel the coziness...

The video of Philip Thomas leading the tour of his holiday apartment is much more fun, but QVC seems to be more touchy about posted video links now.

So, if you just google  Designer Philip Thomas' Decked Out Upper East Side Pad ,  it will appear and you can click on.

I love hearing his commentary-- and this fancy designer mixes fake garland with his real elements!!  Says he wants to leave it up for the whole month, so why not go "faux".   I think it blends well.

His style reminds me of the late Lee Radziwill's--  layering, exquisite elements, but with a curve ball or two thrown in to surprise you....

Edited to add:   I guess better late than never--  Forgot to include a picture of his kitchen.  I think it's a nice, older apartment kitchen, homey, and love the colorful little tree:

@Oznell   Beautiful home, so thanks for bringing it to us.

I love the pink scribble wall although I feel as if it belongs where it is -  in an elegant home in a northern city.  It's nothing I would try in my humble southern Florida condo -  especially because once I commit to a decor, it's not likely I could change it very easily.

Stupendous apartment and fantastic elements. There is a lot, perhaps too much, to take in, and a little edit would be in order, but compared to some of what we see posted, this is a treasure.

@Oznell  I'm really a peasant at heart LOL so I only find a couple of things that appeal to me. That said, since it's his style and taste it's fine. Way too much for me personally but I see his point of view.

Love the apartment but not the red. As an accent yes but not the walls.

I love the apartment and the Christmas decorations. I do not care for red in decor and a touch of pink goes a long way for me. If the color scheme was tweaked I would love this apartment full of character.

Love his use of real, faux, and Christmas-ornament garlands.  The rest is too frou-frou for me.

Absolutely stunning......I love it all. The colors are intense but the furniture is fabulous!

@Oznell  I love all of this stuff in the apartment! The scribble wall reminds me of the pattern in my grandmother's laminate kitchen counter top. I also love that this guy didn't follow strict design rules for his holiday celebration style.

Wow,  the only thing I like is the dining room tablescape and the tree in the corner.
