@Bird mama

So sorry you lost your cactus.  Mine has been with me for a long time too,

I think since before we were married.  Seems like I remember it in my apartment pre DH.

It was really in sad, gooey shape, way over watered by the rain on the porch where it spends it summers, large branches falling off.  Really had not much hope.  1/2 of it didn’t survive.  When it is strong enough I will try to start a few babies from some leaflets.

Re: lilies, do they want any particular type of soil?  They will grow in my yard, but the idea of having them in the house is an amazing thought!

PEACE to you!  🌱

Re: Succulent arrangements

Oooh @Drythe  I just picked up miracle grow potting soil from the home depot.  I find my plants do well if I plant them and leave them alone.  It never dawned on me to try to plant them outside.

I had 2 cacti in a pot that I bought in 1994.  I'm not kidding you when I tell you a few days before 9-11, one just fell over dead.  I screamed when I saw it - it surprised me that bad.

The remaining cactus never got fat but grew over 4 feet.  It seemed to get fatter at the top than at the base and one day I walked into that particular bedroom and there is was keeled over.  I cut the bottom, let some scar tissue grow over, removed the damage part in the pot then stuck the cactus back in and it lived.

I got a smaller succulent as a thank you gift from a birthday party and thought my cactus would like a friend.  I think that rotten little succulent was sick because my cactus got sick.  So I figured, do what you did before Bernie.  So I cut back on my cactus, let the scar form, cleaned out the pot and replanted the cactus.  It just died and the little bit above ground leaned over like it was tired.  When I checked on it - there was no saving it whatsoever.

Another trend that can go bye-bye any time. Have never cared for succlents, real or fake. Don't see the appeal.

Do you like them? Pier 1 has project idea and stems. I’m not convinced I could dust them. Real succulents don’t fare well under my care. My houseplants are spider plants and peace lilies.

I don’t have artifical succulents, but do have two artificial ferns. Could never grow the ‘real thing’.  Shamefaced, I admit dusting them with canned air made for computer keyboard.  Blushing

@Drythe  I failed to mention in my last post that I called my 2 cacti the twin towers after I had visited the WTC with my sister during a trip to NYC.  That's the reason I mentoned the timing and 9/11.

I'm  fighting a cold or virus and am not typing what I'm thinking, lol.

@traveler  A blowdryer is also good for 'dusting' artificial succulents.

@traveler

I do like them! They're great placed in various spots throughout my home and the faux ones are easy to care for. I've run them under the kitchen sink spray and air dried them. No issues. The maintenance is great 😉 Compared to the real thing.IMG_1686.JPG

I love succulents but would never be able to keep the real variety looking good.  So, I made an arrangement of faux succulents for my dining room.  I usually fill the wood bowl with seasonal items but this year I’ve stayed with the succulents.  I’m sure I’ll get tired of it eventually but for now I’m enjoying it.
