I need to replace a washer and am wondering if anyone has some good information on the stackables currently on the market. So many different. This is a G.E., was here when we moved in . I have a large Whirlpool that works well.

Any thoughts will be appreciated.

Thank you so much.

Re: Stackable washer and dryer

I don't really know what's currently on the market. When our washer went on the fritz we replaced it with a stackable Maytag and kept the old dryer. This was probably something like 20+ years ago. Having two dryers made wash days easier and faster since drying usually takes longer than a wash load. Once you get in the groove, it moves alone like clockwork. We're still using the same system today, and that original dryer (an Amana) is close to 30 yrs. old.

I'll be interested in your answers to this question, too. When my washer or dryer goes out I might get a stackable.

Re: Stackable washer and dryer

Since this is such a thrilling topic, I am bringing it to the top for everyone's enjoyment!! I had almost given up trying to find it. Search didn't help at all.

As I am so desperate I will probably continue to bug everyone til I find someone who is the next thing to an expert on stackables or "unified" as I think the term is now. However "unified " is not really a stackable as I see it.

Why does buying stuff have to be so confusing??

Did you do any searching on-line? There's a wealth of information out there on almost any topic. I was considering a stackable, too, when ours go caput, but am not there yet. Good luck in your endeavor.

Re: Stackable washer and dryer

My new neighbor...she lives upstairs...has a stackable....she said its old...sorry I don't know what brand...but she loves it...it does go off balance frequently causing it to move about...the washer, when running, is quiet....but the dryer is terribly noisy...not sure why...

She does stay downstairs when the machines are running in case of problems....she lives alone so its perfect for her needs...not sure how efficient it would be for a family that has lots of clothes to do...

Re: Stackable washer and dryer

When we were shopping for our (full size) HE washer and dryer almost everything we looked at had the option of side-by-side or stacked. NOTE: when you stack you do NOT need to purchase the base -storage drawer option that the w/d sits on. You do need to buy a stack kit (approp $50)

On the outside they can appear that way, but ours is full size on the inside.
