I wouldn't want a TV that size if it had to ruin the look of an entire room. Mine is smaller and in lovely enclosed cabinetry, with storage above and below. No need to sacrifice

@vsm Rooms are for living. Of course you need a tv and I don't object to seeing one. It is a fact of life and especially with sports and social media, necessary. For most.
I think it is one of those big changes in life that we are all trying to get used to.
It's precisely because rooms, as you say, are for living that I would never want a huge black hole overpowering a handsome fireplace in a gracious space. My solution was a smaller TV on a pull-out/turntable shelf, with separate storage above and below, all enclosed in floor-to-ceiling cabinetry. Saves space, avoids an eyesore, and allows for viewing from different angles. Works for me -- to each her own.

TVs are being moved away from the fireplaces now and over to the side on a shorter console or buffet-type storage unit.

If you entertain a lot, it would be practical to have a coffee table for each couch. My sister in law has no coffee tables and 2 couches and it is awkward when you are drinking or eating something in the living room because you can only put things on the floor. ![]()

@Nonametoday Not everyone. For our den, it is the perfect place, looks fine and we are happy with it.

Yes, and rooms like this are not used to lounge around in one's pajamas and watch TV. They are used for entertaining. I expect the owner of this home as an equally large (or larger) family room which is decorated equally beautifully but is not overly appointed. I just think I would love to visit here and have tea and cookies.
I could see the need for a TV in that location, or at least a monitor-screen, if perhaps this person is a member of a club and they do something like powerpoint presentations or if this home belongs to a political candidate who wants to show videos of meetings, etc.
@Nonametoday Why wouldn't this room be used to lounge around in clothed or not however you would want? It is your home. Lie on the sofa and watch tv. You have a coffee table for snacks if you want.
I don't get why people equate pretty with uncomfortable, not nice, not a place to watch tv, etc. Every room in your house could be pretty and comfortable.
Even if you are on a budget normally you would not have to buy ugly furniture to be comfortable. There is a lot to choose from now--thank goodness! ![]()

@Sooner I don't mind a TV in a room at all. It's a TV over the fireplace that I don't like. I want to look straight ahead at a TV, not up. It would be uncomfortable for my neck to look up.

I can see having two c. tables if the sofas are far apart, but in this pic, they look too close together. I really like this room, but definitely would remove that bench in front of the fireplace. Don't want a fire that I can't see.

@NickNack We have friends whose tv over the fireplace is in too small a room to be comfortable unless you are lying down.
If you have a room big enough and the furniture is far enough away it is fine. TV's don't have to be at eye level. And since rooms are often built with the fireplace as a focal point, it is great.

This is much better than trying to make one table functional for both couches. And the traffic flow isn't really compromised.

I love the colors used in this room.
Take away the art above the windows, the bench in front of the fireplace, and replace the 2 coffee tables with one large one...that would make this room very appealing to me.
