Re: Small rug- Royal Palace- HOW TO CLEAN it MYSELF

If you go to a place where they professionally clean area rugs you will see they simply hang them on a line and basically power wash them. One that small I would just hang on a line and put spray detergent then rinse with a hose.

Have you actually checked on the cost of using a professional?

I would not soak it.  Do not steam clean it.

Be sure whatever you do, do it on a day with low humidity and you can air dry it well outside.

I have pets and some rugs, not wool, but my go-to is Windex with ammonia.

Thanks everyone.  I will do  my best to make it look cleaner.  NO idea how it got so dingy since it is inside, upstairs, near my bed.

Re: Small rug- Royal Palace- HOW TO CLEAN it MYSELF

I have many Royal Palace area rugs, and most are well over a decade old. I use my Bissell on them and before that my Oreck carpet cleaners.

I use virtually no 'soap' in those cleaners, most of the time none, as if it isn't rinsed out of carpets, it simply attracts more dirt in the long run.

I don't think the manufacturer recommends getting them wet, but mine are still looking like new and going strong.

You might ask close friends and family if they have something like a home carpet steam cleaner you can borrow, as many people do have them. I lend mine to my son all the time.

Absent that, I'd either take to to a professional, or if you want to risk it (and honestly I don't think it would be that big of a risk) I'd take it outside on a nice hot sunny day, and use the hose and a soft scrub brush with some kind of canned carpet cleaner (woolite used to make one). Leave it outside on a hot day to dry and if still not dry, sit it over a footstool in the bathtub for a couple of days to finish drying.

Their rugs (at least the older ones I have) seem virtually indestructible.

Use a steam vac. When I have a professional carpet cleaner come over, I also have him steam vac my small oval Royal Palace rug - which is next to my bed. Comes out beautifully. I've had it around 10 years.
