They are ok - but I only buy when on sale/clearance since otherwise very overpriced. The one thing I have noticed is that most of his candles have too many scents in them so when you get them...it smells nothing like you expected ( and not always in a good way). Many end up smelling strange/ muddled/sort of burnt....so i recommend selecting a simple scent

I completely agree with this!
He's always talking about how "complex" his scents are and how there are so many different essential oils in each candle. I have bought many candles from him and very few are smell like I expected them to. I feel like a candle should smell like it's name; not like the 20 different oils that are put it into them. I am always leary of buying apple scented candles from him because many of them have ended up smelling very floral, which is not the expectation from an apple candle.
However, I am happy that TJM, HomeGoods, HomeSense, etc. are selling Homeworx candles now. I have been able to go into a store, smell a candle that I thought I'd like, and then put it down when it didn't smell the way I thought it would. Lots of money saved by being able to do that!

I bought 6 of these expensive Homeworks by Harry Slatkin candles. I have never experienced such messy, terrible candle wicks in a candle, or that disappear after only a few minutes of burning, and the wax smell is horrendous even though designer Slatkin boasted his wicks are the best, and the scents are perfect with no wax odor. I'm so disappointed. I have purchased cheap candles elsewhere in boutiques or even at the shopping malls that are better than the Slatkin candles. Unfortunately, I gave 5 of the candles as gifts and I am so embarrassed with these giftings. The white lavendar scents lasted seconds and went to wax scent throughout the house. I will never bother with buying Slatkin products ever again from QVC.

@Jacie wrote:I have long been a fan of NEST and Trapp candles. I saw the Slatkin candles but don't know anything about them. Are they comparable to NEST or Trapp? Are the scents realistic? Do they burn evenly?
Any advice or recommendations would be helpful in my purchase decision making! TIA!
. I love candles and they are a weakness for me. I often am tempted to buy a slackin candle but have to remind myself that I have not had very good luck with them because you can hardly smell them! I have wondered if the ones Harry receives are more heavily scented because he always comments how he can smell one burning throughout the house?

I had been a long time purchaser of his candles but stopped due to the quality going right in the toilet! When he was 1st on Q the few sets of candles I picked up were very good quality but that ship has sailed on his company due to thin wicks, zero scent projection, no fragrance oil, drowning wicks which all causes uneven pooling. I have lamped his candles but the size makes it a pita to deal with and still no improvement in scent quality.
And yes so many of his candles are just off...flora in a blueberry type candle.
I have about 12 of his candles that are about 3yrs old before quality went in the toilet completely and plan to use them up and never purchase this line again.
I haven't seen them in Home Goods for a year now....I heard he stopped selling them in lot's to them for some reason. Perhaps they are showing back up lately? Either way I can't recommend them.
I agree with the other poster here....I suspect Harry gets samples sent to him that are tailored to be premium quality and approval but what is actually mass produced is similar to low quality Tuscany candles at grocery stores.
I am positive he must see the awful reviews here on Q but I suspect most customers keep them and toss out rather then sending them back demanding a refund for defective poor quality.
I used to love this brand but I simply see it as garbage now.
Bath&Body Works is far superior...you can smell in store and they have candles sales every week which are great. I have never paid full price....$12.95 or less most of the time with coupons they give out to app users. You can shop all year like this no need to stock up as the sales are constant. PLUS if it doesn't perform as it should and you burn it one or 2 times they will refund your money. Easy to just go in store and enjoy the hunt for a candle to try. Today they are on sale 14.95 until Sunday...this is higher then I pay. Last weekend it was 12.95 plus a flash sale Sunday night for another 20% off from that. The quality is here and no shipping fees...in store everywhere shopping.

Even though the original post is 4 years old, since it was revived, I'll add my two cents.
I have many Slatkin Candles. The majority have really good throw. Now and then, I'll get a dud. I think of all my years buying them, it happened twice and I returned them as defective no scent. I feel Harry's descriptions are spot on. If the title is Falling Snow, the candle smells like falling snow. I feel he is one of the few manufacturers who titles his candles with the actual scent. I don't find his candles sooty at all. However, I trim the wicks each time I Ilight them and I also burn them inside one of his hurricanes which helps with eliminating soot. As for Bath & Body Works candles, I'll buy them during a really good sale knowing I will throw it out when 1/3 is remaining. I feel Bath & Body Works candles lose their scent after I've burned 2/3 of the candle. Out of all the candles I buy for myself and to give as hostess gifts, Harry's candles are my favorite.
