Re: Simple homemaking pleasures

After a grueling day/night at work & a 100 mile commute a day; I start de-stressing the minute I put my car in park in front of my sanctuary.  My pantyhose are off, shoes are off as I proceed to where I can take off my "girdle & scratch".  I am immediately in the shower washing the day away.  Then into my Stan Herman lounging gown, I go catch up with DH when he gets home.  I then head straight to my womancave. I am a tart melting aficionado, so I determine what scent mood I am in; pour a glass of merlot, nibble on a piece of dark chocolate, capture the moments when my decor comes alive via a stragically lit timered cadance.  TV is on, my girls (Carlita & Lolita) are snuggling with me on my left side waiting for me to get supper ready (heat 'n eat).  However, it is not complete until I sign in & check in with all my QVC forum friends, posts & more importantly, my wish list.  The best part, I get to do it all over again tomorrow ;~)

Sounds like you have a haven! Nothing better than coming home, to family, furries, and food! Feeling lucky to have such wonderful folks to share with. Thanks.

There are 2 things to which I can really apply myself.  One is an everyday chore and one a project:

1. I need surfaces to be clean.  To that end, I am the "Windex Lady."  Give me Windex and papertowels and I'm off to the races, cleaning down my kitchen and bathroms like nobody's business.

2.  This involves painting.  Believe it or not, I enjoy painting walls, so am looking forward to painting our new condo in the next month.  I've saved us a ton of $$$ over the years doing all of the interior painting, which included re-doing our entire kitchen.

@sfnative, If you're ever in SE Mo, look me up. I'll cook and clean and I'll let you paint.  LOL  You sound like an all around do it yourselfer.  I know your home will be beautiful.

Oh, Lucy, just missed you, sort of.  We lived in Tulsa for 6 years and departed in early 2002.

Having a pretty tablecloth on the table and setting the table every night with pretty dishes.

When I first got married I found my MIL (deceased) had left behind a stack of neat old vintage 50's tablecloths. I asked DH if he minded if I used them and he was totally indifferent so I too got the bug and started collecting vintage tablecloths. I have one on my table every day at home. The colors and 50's prints make me smile. Alas mine are all starting to wear out after 30+ years of use. I need to go in search of some "new" ones. Love tablecloths.

It sounds like you talking about household chores and house cleaning which are not at the same thing as homemaking for me.  I hate chores and cleaning and I'm fortunate that we have a wonderful housekeeper who does all that.  I do enjoy decorating my home; I cannot say that there is one particular thing that gives me pleasure.  Rather it's putting together a home that is lovely and welcoming and makes an impression on our guests.

I like being in an organized, clean home. Everything in place, and no rushing around to pick up. Haven't achieved it yet, got a couple of non-conformists here to deal with and their messes.

I have a housekeeper who cleans every 2 weeks but I still have to clean it in between.Do you have a full time housekeeper? That would be nice.

I love cleaning windows and the glass on pictures!  The sparkle I get is so nice.  That would also include dusting.  Maybe I'm sick?  Ha!  Unfortunately, due to health problems, I can't do much anymore and I miss it.

I also love to set a pretty table.

I think when you clean anything glass - windows, mirrors or any decor items , it really makes the house feel cleaned because the glass sparkles so nicely. It makes me very sad that in my house the sprinklers for the landscape are always sprsaying the dirty recycled water onto my clean windows and spotting them. My windows are only ever clean for a day or two as the sprinklers come on every other night.

Re: Simple homemaking pleasures

I'm a clean freak, so a neat and tidy house means nothing  to me.  It has to be clean

Used to go crazy with the usual household cleaners (comet, mr clean, lysol, etc.), but have really changed my game with plant based and non toxic cleaning products.

I grow flowers and shrubs that are especially good for cutting and rarely buy bouquets any more.  I love having fresh flowers, even if it's a sprig of a begonia in a shot glass on the kitchen windowsill.

I still hang all wash on a clothesline.  No snootty HOAs to tell me not to, (live at the beach) my yards are private and no one sees it.  Only us, thankyouverymuch.

Although the only carpet at our homes are the bath mats, I still marvel at the vacuum cleaner and use it every day, sometimes twice or however many times needed!

I cherish air conditioning, especially in the summer, but still leave a window or two open even when it's on.  I don't like the closed in feeling of shut windows.

Indoor plumbing and pretty awnings are also at the top of my list.
