I know that many of us have been more than homemakers in our lives. Moms, wives, grandmas, career women, volunteers, and more.

But I think we all come here to share, because we love 'home'.

With that in mind, care to share some simple pleasures of the homemaking side of your life?

I could list a hundred, but I'll start with this one.

A washing machine full of hot soapy water, swishing clothes clean. I love the sound, the smell, and I just love doing laundry. I look into a washer and  realize how hard getting clothes clean was just a couple of generations ago, and am thankful for today's equipment.

What simple pleasures do you find in daily homemaking?

(heading off to steam clean carpets for my mom, so I won't be back for several hours. Have a great morning everyone!)

Re: Simple homemaking pleasures

I love the feeling I get after a big grocery shop. The cabinets and fridge are full and all is right with the world.

Re: Simple homemaking pleasures

There are so many pleasures in homemaking these days that were not available even in my younger days.  One that comes to mind is a vaccum, no more having to (some still do) hang rug on line and beat the dirt out of it.  My other favorite is the Microwave.  I use it constantly to reheat food, coffee, frozen dinners from leftovers, just love it.

I love just having a neat tidy house. I thrive on organization and order. Sadly, I am married to a complete slob and semi hoarder so this is a constant battle between us.

I also agree with the poster who said she enjoys having the fridge and cupboards full. When I was a child my parents constantly struggled to keep food on the table so it is utter joy to always have enough to easily make us nice meals.

Re: Simple homemaking pleasures

Fresh laundry and clean sheets!  Off to re-decorate the bed right now, as I have the luxury of a couple different sheet and bedspread sets.  Nothing like taking a shower and getting into a newly made bed.

And I vacuum the main floor every day.  Very cathartic and I love the "freshly mown" look of the tracks.

I'm in a "sick of cooking" mood right now, but I do love to plan the weekly meals and stock up on things I know we'll need.  I have the luxury of a pantry and I so love having it stocked.

Another thing Iove is a beautiful warm but not hot day with the sun shining and you can open the windows and have a nice breeze in the house. I think nothing else makes a house feel cleaner than fresh air inside.

Alas...I am the same as you love a clean tidy house and married to a slob...LOL He can put whatever he wants in the garage as long as the car still fits in it.

I LOVE hanging bedding, rugs and sheers on the line!! Smells wonderful when you bring everything back in.

I like a pot of soup simmering on the stove during the cold days of winter.

I agree about the garage and he can do whatever in his den , I keep the door closed. The housekeeper cleans the den every 2 weeks when she comes and he really is in a trauma with that.I throw away trash like old magazines when she comes and he thinks she did that - fine with me. if it was up to him we would have moved a stack of 30 year old magazines from Pa to Fl. If I am the first to die , you will see him on that hoarders show - no kidding.

Though I take no pleasure in wash day, the language which I bolded above really spoke to me of the may hardships my Michigan grandmother lived through each wash day.  At 7, I was flown back to Michigan to spend the summer with my grandparens on their farm.  I'll never forget watching her on that first wash day: old wringer washer into which she had to dump hot water boiled on the wood stove, plus she also used a wash board.  I had only seen these boards on TV, so had a hard time believing what my 7 year old eyes were seeing.

God Bless all of our grandmas going back ages who literally worked themselves to death providing for their families.

Re: Simple homemaking pleasures

There are 2 things to which I can really apply myself.  One is an everyday chore and one a project:

1. I need surfaces to be clean.  To that end, I am the "Windex Lady."  Give me Windex and papertowels and I'm off to the races, cleaning down my kitchen and bathroms like nobody's business.

2.  This involves painting.  Believe it or not, I enjoy painting walls, so am looking forward to painting our new condo in the next month.  I've saved us a ton of $$$ over the years doing all of the interior painting, which included re-doing our entire kitchen.
