This room and view have such potential, but IMO it's ruined by the shelves in front of the windows. I'm assuming they didn't want to obstruct the views by using bulkier shelving, but I don't think it worked. All the lines from the shelves and in the window design are competing with each other. If I wanted to put something in front of a window it would always be something shorter & lower to the floor.

What do you think? Do you like the metal shelves in front of the windows?

I'm not loving the furnishings. They're ok, but not what I would chose. I really hate that spiky thing hanging from the ceiling.

Glad I have no reason to be in that room.  I'm on edge just seeing it. WE're not seeing enough of the room to know if there's another way they could have used shelves, b ut I'd skip them (and their contents) totally --  the rest of the room is simple and elegant.  I like it.

What you said!

Some of the shows on HGTV show them building shelves across windows...nope! Too hard to clean.

Why are they blocking that gorgeous view with shelves and knicknacks?

That ruins the whole room.  I don't care for the lighting fixture either

I could understand the shelves if they were used for live plants but these don't appear to be serving that purpose, in which case I wouldn't have them there.

It doesn't work. I think they wanted to display collectibles, and thought this was the solution. I love a lot of windows and light, but this reminds me of a store front.

Re: Shelves in Front of Windows

You're so right, @wilma -- all the lines are fighting with each other, and it's basically a graphic nightmare.  There was no care to stand back, and evaluate how the lines of the shelves would, or wouldn't, align with all the lines in the windows.

Could be a terrific room.  I really like the metallic golden ceiling, which could have been achieved the classic way, with gilt tea paper--  can't tell, but is nice and gives that subtle glow.
