I line my shelves with old folded “ tea towels “ or old hand towels. Very quiet and easy to fold to correct width.
In one house I used old pillowcases.
All easy to wash if there is a spill.

I use something better than shelf paper in my cabinets and drawers.
I went to a carpet and flooring store and purchased a large piece of vinyl flooring. I cut it to fit the drawers and shelves.
Love it. It is easy to wipe clean and when one of my grandkids spilled honey inside of the pantry on a shelf, I just removed the flooring material and took it over to the sink and washed it.
This material does not need to be glued down and doesn't curl or move around. Some of my drawers have had the same material for over 20 years.

Yep! We did did that for the bottom cabinets and the brown/amber plastic material someone above mentioned (flat on one side ribbed on the other) in the upper shelves for dishes and glasses. LOVE both! The vinyl on the bottom is great! We did the vinyl stick on tiles at the old house, but the sheet is better.

I use the peel and stick vinyl flooring tiles as shelf paper. Easy to cut to fit, and they last forever. Just wipe off if they get dirty.

Yes we did when we moved into our new house. Didn’t want any thing to show on those pretty new cabinets.

I purchase table mats at the Dollar Store . They have many varieties and are thick and just a quick wipe if necessary . I place them in my kitchen cabinets , bathrooms and laundry room.
I also place gift wrap paper to line my dresser drawers .

I use a shelf liner - coated cotton or someting like that. I like to use it under the sink in the kitchen and some of my kitchen drawers. I only use it in cabinets or drawers where there could be anything that drips or could scratch the drawers.

I've only ever lived in older homes, and the cabinets in many places were ugly and stained, to the point of not being able to get them clean looking. I've always used the sticking kind of contact paper.
This is the first place I've lived long enough to say that I need to replace what I put down when we moved in. But I'm going to leave it and hope for new cabinets instead! LOL
