STONE AND FRAME CALIFORNIA HOUSE

Still on a Steve and Brooke Giannetti kick.  They usually work together on their projects.  This time, architect Steve designed the house, but Brooke did not decorate the interiors.  That was done by the present English homeowner/decorator  Samantha O'Connor.

The simplicity of her dining room, combined with the lovely architecture, stopped me in my tracks.  She clearly loves Swedish antiques like I do.  Dreamy cabinet, chairs, scrubbed table.

I also appreciate that although painted white, the house is mostly bathed in a warm off-white, rather than the starker, colder whites.

As usual, with all Giannetti designs, the bones of the house are so beautiful.  Look at the sweeping lines of the open stairwell.

Looking from kitchen into breakfast room.  Of course, I love little clean-lined industrial touches here and there, like the sleek steel barstools.   Yet, the kitchen still has warmth-- the old-school wood countertops are part of that.

The choice of clear glass tiles for backsplash gives a little unexpected shimmer.   Nice to have space for cookbooks built into the island. 6a00e554d7b827883301b7c8970eca970b.jpg

Gorgeous breakfast room.  Typical quirky English assemblage of different chairs, which I really enjoy.

Then, the utter surprise of this two story library.  Again, so architecturally interesting, with the round windows, and iron balustrade.   Samantha can really exercise her Englishness here!

Back to "light-and-bright", with the sweet bedroom...  Love that dressing table!

and bathroom.

Giannetti's little 'custom' touches, like the pretty arch in the free-standing shower add character.

In fact, once you twig to them, you start to count all the arches, curves, and round windows, etc., that are among the delights in this house's architecture.

Even the back stairs have an almost chaste, New England "meeting-house" beauty...

The wings of the house aren't identical, but nicely balance the central core.

To me, an impressive design of a house, and it has been 'humanized' by Samantha O'Connor's penchant for antiques, and distressed, obviously loved pieces.

This house has a lot of lovely parts and furnishings to it.

Re: STONE AND FRAME CALIFORNIA HOUSE

For some reason I really love those stairway pictures. Especially the one with archway and glimpse of stairs going down. Just lovely. Breakfast nook is beautiful, but can't say that I love mismatched chairs...at least not so many. Finally, I love the outside space and the nice 2nd story deck/balcony. Thanks for sharing this beautiful home.

There are so many fine and pretty aspects to the house and decor, many of which were mentioned by other posters.

I particularly like that rustic little bench in the bath as a counterpoint to the modern design.

I do worry a bit the house isn't good for aging in place.

You have to bend very swkwardly to reach the cookbooks. It makes me think they're just for show.
And having some kitchen cabinets accessible only by ladder? I know at some point I may have thought that would be fun, but these days, no. Even if she had staff, she'd have to only employ the fittest ones. No old family retainers.

Circles and arches always please me....and that window above the tub - the staircase, just dreamy.  A comfortable pleasing home.

Re: STONE AND FRAME CALIFORNIA HOUSE

I love the library and the staircase, the rest not so much.  I also dislike the front of the house a lot.

There is a house that looks a lot like that in our neighborhood and I commented last week to my husband that it looks like someone sawed two houses in half and stuck them together.

Re: STONE AND FRAME CALIFORNIA HOUSE

White is white is white, no matter the shade. Way to boring and no color. And who puts windows like that in a bathroom where you cannot possibly cover them appropriately (in style) for privacy? It was built and designed as a "showpiece" to be photographed. Or for those who like to parade around au natural without a care who sees them from outside!!!

That kitchen is atrocious and also again "for show" to be photographed only. Who here would cook where you had to climb a ladder OR maneuver around a ladder just to cook?? Horrendous!!
