Studio McGee has done their first international project, "Cabo Dos Vistas" in Baja California, Mexico. I was struck by the beachy kitchen, and the entire house, which has an easy going, resort-like vibe, working well for this large family.
Shea McGee was thrilled with the unusual wood and other materials they were able to source, and the high level of plasterers available locally.
Shea was explaining that they eliminated the wooden back of the cabinets below, so the tile backsplash would be visible through the glass doors-- very nice effect.
In the overall photos of the great room, it's hard to notice the dining room area, so here's a close-in shot. The custom table has a soft, live edge. Again, love the pottery they sourced.
The kitchen and dining area open into a wood and stone family room, that looks very comfortable. It acts like a breezeway, when the vast glass doors are swept open on each side...
Love the indigenous oversize pottery and earthy baskets on the coffee table and throughout the house.
They called this the "pistachio" bedroom--
And this cozy lavender bedroom shows that every room doesn't have to have a devastating ocean view to be charming. The paint color is Farrow and Ball's "Calluna".
The closet doors have an airy, intricate pattern.
The master bedroom continues the themes of tranquillity, meticulous craftsmanship, and oh, those views.
Love the arched, louvered doors. She said the walls are pale blue, but that's not really showing up on my monitor:
At twilight, woven lanterns light the courtyard:
Cozying up to an open fire adjacent to the rolling surf does seem like fun!

@Oznell While I admire the attention to detail and the obvious work that went into this project, it is not for me.

The house is beautiful, and while I appreciate some of the appointments and furnishings, it is entirely too muted and neutral for me. It needs color, and plenty of it.
I would not have guessed Mexico as the place of this house if you had not mentioned it in your post.

What a beautiful home! Every room had such a wonderful flow to the next space. From the wonderful architecture and artistic interpretation, the colors chosen, as well as furnishings, all perfection.

@Pezzie. I agree on the bland decor, especially in Mexico where color is used extravagantly.
The other thing wrong is that it is in Mexico. I've known people who've bought homes there and they were soon back in the good old USA.

It's very nicely done and everything flows together well but, as others have said, it's much too neutral for me. My favorite thing is the ocean view.

The view is incredible. Paradise.
I love the closet doors and the arched doorway; beautifully realized.
While there is no doubt of the quality and care that went into everything here, I find it too austere. I don't see or feel any warmth from the rooms themselves or the contents.
Again, beautiful location. Thank you so much @Oznell
