He did a beautiful job staying true to his restoration vision. Gorgeous home.

@on the bay , that first shot that shows the pool, that isn't the front of the house. I believe it might be the side of the house, or possibly even the back. The structure rambles around so much, with courtyards and allees tucked in, it's hard to tell. By contrast, the front of it is sort of unexciting!
Not necessarily referring to this house, but I remember reading somewhere, that some traditional Charleston houses have more emphasis on their side yards, or have side yard entries, or something like that. Maybe someone can enlighten us on that point...

The Kitchen is my favorite room. It is so warm and cozy with the fireplace, beams, and gorgeous range.

Thanks for that explanation. I do know that a lot of large houses have a front but many people hardly ever enter through the front
because the garage is on the side and the garage often leads to the kitchen. Even if there is not garage, there might be the entrance for cars to get to the house.
Sometimes too the front has a large set of steps or hills and is hard to get to. But then if guests or people other than family come, they will use the front entrance.
We used to have a townhouse that had the front entrance straight into a hall and to the right the kitchen. That makes so much sense to me![]()

Many historic Charleston and Southern homes must make the best use of of small lots. Pool's are built in front perhaps because they need to make the most of sun and privacy. As for the white box in the kitchen ceiling, it is a light box. Many times built that way to diffuse the bright sun but yet light is needed to cook.
I live in Hilton Head and the Low Country and these great cities like Charleston hold so much history and interesting stories.

@Oznell Thanks again for the lovely pics you post. This house is beautiful. So glad there are people out there who can bring these houses back to their beauty!

@Oznell Soooo much to love here. This house is spectacular.
From the millwork to the stone floors it's a wow.
I love the floor to ceiling windows, the trim/base boards and mouldings, the brick, the colors used, the double porches, the grounds with the lovely greenery and the potted lemon trees (I love potted trees), the water feature/pool (if it's a pool, I love when they make a pool look more natural and like it fits into nature), and, and.....
I agree that Newel post is a work of art. that whole entry area is gorgeous with the beautiful glowy melon orange color (Love!)
Just a stunner, thanks for the lovely as always!!!!

@GingerHead , yup, it's a "plunge pool", according to the site-- that always makes it seem like the owners have a more athletic and generally much more exciting lifestyle than mine...
Me too for that 'cantaloupe' color-- it's a Farrow and Ball one, if I remember right.
