I'd love to hear your recommendations for a space heater.  I want one that is safe, with a remote, and won't get so hot that it burns my dogs or grandkids.   Thank you!

@CalminHeart  My sister has had one of these for years and loves it. I've been at her home when she's using her's. It's very nice, looks good, puts out the heat, warms a very large room. It's not hot to the touch at all either. She's had little g'kids and pets around it too, no worries. I'd love to have one myself. They're portable so I could use it in the living room and then take it upstairs to the master easily.

Is the TSV a  good value....I think I have heard/read that sometimes these units cause your electric book to soar.

I love to know where the value is on this Tsv heater.   It’s over priced and the shipping is horrible and then you add tax to it.  I don’t consider this a good deal at all.  Get a lasko heater for 30 dollars.

Re: Room Heater

[ Edited ]

I have an earlier version of the TSV Duraflame Heater: V35813 (purchased 3 years ago and it was under $80) and it heats all of the rooms up to 1,000 square feet.  It is quite and does not get so hot you can't touch or put something on top. There have been times when I had to lower the settings because I would wake up and it was too hot in the room.  It saves on electricity and when it is not cold enough to heat the entire home these are great.  This TSV is priced a little higher than I would pay but I am sure it has more modern/upgraded features than the one I purchased.

@GAQShopr53.  I'm confused, you say you bought V35813 several years ago, however it is the TSV being offered today as is the picture you posted.  I got the Duraflame TSV 3 years ago and its quite different from that being offered today.  IMHO it's much nicer, but it sure won't heat 1,000sq ft.

I have three portable radiator heaters that are like below.  They do get warm to touch but not burning hot.  I have four cats and a bird.  I've never had issues with them and this style of heater.  It is safe to leave on when gone from home too since it doesn't have a heating element that is exposed or with a fan blowing through.  These won't give instant heat like one that blows, but they will heat the air in the room and stay comfortable even at temps in the teens at night, which we had a few of those cold snaps in south Georgia.  Three of these heat what I use of my open floor plan house.  Only the bedrooms and bath are closed rooms.  Two are in the open living/kitchen/dining/den space with one in my bedroom.  The one in my bedroom is kept lower since I don't like to be hot at night and it really heats up my 20 x 20 bedroom very well.  You can increase the flow of hot air with ceiling fans or a small floor fan blowing on low through the heater.  I just use my ceiling fans on low to circulate the hot air more.  Melectriccs bills are lower than when using my HVAC.  I got these one winter with my HVAC went out and couldn't be fixed for over a week and temps in the teens/20s.  Since then, I use them more than the HVAC in the winter due to electric savings and not heating unused bedrooms.

I got mine at WalMart for around $30 each.  They also don't knock over easily either.  They aren't as pretty at the TSV, but work amazingly.

I have two previous TSV Duraflame heaters.  The designs are slightly different than this one and the first one I purchased is a smaller size.

I believe the first one I purchased was advertised as heating 800 sq feet and the second 1000 sq feet and were about $80 and $120 respectively.  We have an oil furnace and zoned heat so we have one of these to turn on when we use the family room on the lower level and the other is in our bedroom to take the chill off when we first get up and often just for the ambience of the flame only setting.

They suit our needs perfectly and we have loved them.  They do not get hot...I have one of our cordless phones sitting on the one downstairs.  The heating element is on the bottom and recessed so one would have to really work to come into contact with it.  My cat loves to lay in front of it but seems to know not to stick her nose under there.  😀.

I seem to remember when I purchased them that the description said the cost for an hour’s use is about .25...of course everyone’s electricity rates are different.  Has not been a deal breaker for me as the most any one of them might be on is a couple of hours a day.

Re: Room Heater

[ Edited ]

My house is heated with a gas furnace. One year my furnace quit working and I had to use electric heaters to heat critical areas of my house. NEVER AGAIN! That was the most expensive utility bill I have ever gotten and I am so thankful that I have a new gas furnace. I would not recommend any electric heater unless you want to spend the money to run them just for the aesthetics.

I own two of these infrared heaters and I have them just in case my furnace stops working for some reason. They have proved to be expensive to operate and do not lower the cost of heating my house in any way. These have remote controls, made by LifeSmart. Paid around $75 for one that heats a large room.
