Regarding Stately Home for Holidays Thread

Just thought posters would want to know a few details & history regarding the thread about a stately home started by @stevieb

You can google to get more info if you desire.

This is a photo of My Old Kentucky Home in Bardstown, KY completed in 1818. It’s usually open for tourists, but not sure about now during the pandemic. No one lives there. It is a State Park and has been restored inside & out with period furnishings. Originally called Federal Hill, it was renamed My Old Kentucky Home in 1923.

Stephen Foster’s song “My Old Kentucky Home” (published 1853) that is played at the KY Derby every year is not directly related to this property but just a general song about bygone days in the South.

Thanks for the information, I bet it is beautiful inside.  I am glad it is preserved and considered historical.  I am thankful for those ho work to make sure these places remain for history and people to enjoy.

[ Edited ]

Decor is mixed furniture styles.  From primitive and early American in the kitchen up to an including Victorian elsewhere.  Built in early 1800's.

Interior and exterior architectural design and detail are beautiful, interior decor is not my taste, but often typical of how they decorated during those times.

Love the outside but the inside is not appealing to me at all.

I know the decor is that of the time but I hate the colors and just about everything else.

Hmmmm

Might be closed for covid.

Me thinks I'll sneak in and live there a day or two till the watchman catches me!

It's a beautiful scene with the house and the snow surrounding the grounds.  You wonder what it looks like inside.

What a mish mash of colors and patterns!  I couldn't live in that.  Outside is beautiful though.

Man plans. God laughs.
