I was just reading @151949’s thread about everything breaking and now it seems to be rubbing off on us.
I think our refrigerator is getting ready to bite the dust. My husband came in a little while ago and said it didn’t look like it was working correctly. I went into the kitchen and the temps on the door for both the refrigerator and the freezer were definitely too high. But then, on its own, it seemed to start cooling again.
We’ve decided that if it dies, we’re going to replace it.
Anyone buy a new one lately that you love and would recommend? Or any to advise me to stay away from?

Suggest you avoid Samsung. I’ve had one a bit > 3 years and it has already been serviced twice.
Repairman said he gets more call for them than any other brand. He suggested Maytag, or Whirlpool. He is an independent contractor, so sales pitch, info based on his repair experience.
Those who have Samsung’s and love them kindly do not beat on me.

@Drythe- we have a Samsung! It’s never given us problems and is 11 years old. But I’d already made a decision a few years ago that when the time came not to replace it with a Samsung.
I didn’t even know that Maytag made refrigerators.

I have a GE french door. After a few years, it started leaking water under the vegetable and fruit trays. Then, the water would freeze to sheets of ice. I called out our repairman. He couldn't fix it. He did tell me that GE has samsung parts and he seemed to think that was the trouble. I dont know.
My husband emailed several people at GE and never heard back.
I ended up having the water line disconnected and I just buy ice now, we already had a water filter on our faucet.
I'm not sure what my next brand will be, but it won't be a ge and I don't think I'm gonna get a fancy fridge with bells and whistles. Its just more stuff that can go wrong.
Good Luck, I hope whatever you get you have better luck than I have had with this thing, @gidgetgh

Not sure if there even around anymore but if they are- Don’t buy an Electrolux. They are junk. Ice maker tore up within the first year I bought it- they fixed it because it was under warranty. Two years later, Ice machine broke again. It would cost more to fix than replace. I don’t know what kind to buy. Nothing lasts like they use to.

My condo came with a Sub-Zero. In the 10 years I have lived here I haven't had one problem with it. My mom suggested I get it serviced and just did a few weeks back. They replaced a bunch of parts and the service tech said he felt I could get another ten years out of it! So while it is a super expensive refrigerator to start--- it is holding up very well and I do feel with this brand you do actually get what you pay for....
I hope this helps. ![]()

I have a teeny GE (15 cu ft) and it does great. No icemaker.

If you don't care about looks, try a Maytag.
I've had mine about 15 years.
It's nothing fancy but it's dependable.

Buy something that you like. Don't buy the cheapest or the most expensive. And expect that you will most likely replace it before it is 10 years old.
I have a KitchenAid refrigerator in my basement that is about 18 years old. But, that may be a rarity anymore. It replaced a refrigerator that was only about 6 years old....that was in the house when we bought it.
My current refrigerator is a Samsung French Door style. I love the French door style. But, the refrigerator definitely has some real quirks. It's about 7 years old and running well. But, I'd never buy Samsung again. We sometimes have to "reset" it to get it to run properly. It's a real PITA.

I am not a bells and whistles kind of person, so my last refrigerator was the largest 2 door fridge GE makes, no ice maker.
I have had 2 refrigerators with ice makers that we did not hook to our water supply; both were a PITA until we removed the ice maker. My opinion after those experiences is that a fridge with an ice maker is determined to make ice. The water from the self defrosting process, will freeze somewhere, like under the crisper drawers, or under the freezer basket in my freezer on the bottom fridge. I will not put a lot of money into a new appliance that isn’t lasting 10 years.
