@jlkz wrote:If you want folded sweaters that are truly accessible, get plastic drawers where one sweater / drawer is the standard. Remember how those stacks of sweaters and shirts get to be a mess? Not in my closet....
if you have tons of shelf space and can adjust the height of the opening, one sweater can still work.
One sweater per drawer? That's not very practical.
Periea boxes are great for sweaters and so many other things and fit nicely on closet shelves.

@BunSnoop They will also say you should throw away everything you've not worn in a year. Really? Makes no sense.

My closet is much longer than wider. I have 3 of these and 2 shoe holders. They have been a
god-send!

My house was built in the early 1990s and I have a small "walk in" closet. Since the kids have moved on, I have taken over the other three bedroom closets which are all small.
I wish for one of those large walk in closets where there are spaces for shelves, drawers as well as hangers. It will never happen in this house.
I have too much stuff and I clean out my closets 2x a year. I will donate or bring stuff to the local consignment shop.
I have to laugh when they show an "organized" closet with almost nothing in it!

@Sooner I agree! My weight can easily go up & down and every once in a while I will "shop" my closet and find something that I have forgotten about that happens to work well with what I want to wear. It might be several years since I have worn it.

I'm extraordinarily lucky in that the lady who owned my house before me had a fabulous 10' x 10' closet custom built with shelves, drawers, hampers and rods. It's so large that not only does it hold my clothes, but it also acts as my linen closet and exercise space.
Like others, I vary in size, so there's no way I would discard clothes that haven't been worn in a year. I do work to keep only what currently fits on the hanging rods with other sizes tucked away in storage boxes below.
Also, I'm not a fashionista. While I enjoy seeing what's current, I can't imagine trying to keep up with the changes in trends. It would be exhausting, I think, to ensure that you have the latest pant shape, the latest shoe shape, the latest bag trend, etc. Instead, I'll be one of those little old ladies who dresses in a bygone style, but always looks tidy and coordinated.

Yesterday I unsubscribed to Real Simple and a lot of other useless stuff that consumes time. I think most of us know how to organize a closet and either do it or don't. Life goes on!
What's taking time is reading about it.
