ROUND-UP OF "RUSTIC-TRADITIONAL"

@jubilant,  based on our convo in the "mixing design styles" thread ,  I decided to browse around to see if I could find more images of that rustic/traditional mix you like.

What I found were plenty of images of "rustic/contemporary" , not as many of rustic/traditional,  but a fair number of at least "rustic /  transitional"  which is closer to your concept.   Have you noticed that also? "Transitional" at least does incorporate some traditional elements, as well as more modern ones, so will include those.  Plus if I'm remembering right, you were going in that direction with your accessories and/or art.

So, for you or anyone else who likes the vibe, one of the coziest of all the blended styles, here are a few images.  Almost all of them have wood ceilings or beams like yours:

This one is actually a "coffee table" book by Lauren Liess that's very hot with design freaks right now-- it is supposed to have great production values, and I have to admit, the cover photo is pretty enticing:

Rustic/traditional seems to have an over-all feeling of a looser, "relaxed" traditional spirit,  with lots of wood, natural elements, and texture to bring in interest...

This is the look I love. My home is rustic softly. I didn't know it was called rustic traditional. What do ya know you learn something new everyday.

Overall, I like these rooms.  But they all have one thing in common that I don't like: Horrid light fixtures.  Whether on the wall, hanging from the ceiling or the lamps -- gak!

I like all of the rooms pictured. They are warm, welcoming, and likable for those who are not stuck to one style or decor.

Several of these are very beautiful! The kitchen one appeals to me. I like that some of the lower cabinets are wood, and I love the big island/table idea. I'd replace all those huge light fixtures with much sleeker ones, and I'd leave that big table absolutely empty and ready for anything.

Re: ROUND-UP OF "RUSTIC-TRADITIONAL"

Thank you for these posts, @Oznell!  Yes, some of these remind me of my room when it appeared darker.  Now that I have very light curtains at the picture window, a lighter couch, and touches of soft brighter colors mine is looking more and more like the pictures of the lighter rooms.  I kept my antique more rustic coffee table.  My dining room set at that end of the great room is a hickory farmhouse looking table, buffet, and cupboard that we bought when we built this house.  It's not super rustic so it can go either way.

It was so nice of you to post these. Thank you!  I like them all for different reasons.  I like to think my room is more expressive now of who I am.  I love traditional but there's that side of me that enjoys casual coziness just as much. It's so nice to have both!!  A cozy cabin on a cold snowy midwest day or traditional elegance when I'm feeling a need for something familiar and "somewhat" elegant.

Re: ROUND-UP OF "RUSTIC-TRADITIONAL"

Interesting point, @just bee .  I would say I'm not bowled over by most of them either, but then, I am in general not excited by a lot of the light fixtures around.

One thing I often do like, is quirky, modern Italian lighting used in fairly "traditional" spaces--  so on that "Down to Earth" book cover, I actually kind of enjoy the black, splayed out ceiling light!  In that context, with the old beams and tufted leather chaise, it's amusing, for some reason...

Oh, my pleasure, @jubilant .  It's like a relaxing game, to go 'on the hunt' for rooms of a certain type!

Agreed, the blend of different styles offers such broadened possibilities, and versatility in the way that you live in and enjoy your space.

I like these rooms best.

Love the views & the piano. Sofas & tables look ok. Not crazy about the chairs or the wall hanging.

Nicely done. I really don’t like those lamps.

Looks very cozy. Not loving the print on the chairs in the background or footstools in the foreground.

Another cozy room. Too much dark furniture though. Needs to be lightened up for me. If the sofa and chair were lighter than the built in and table behind the sofa, that would suit me more.
