nellies will brighten your clothes, regardless of the washing machine, but i think the non HE washing machines clean clothes way better. i mostly wash clothes in cold water. i have extremely hard water.

sadly, i now have an HE washing machine and i think it's the pits!
it gets my clothes clean, but to me, not as clean as my prior non HE washing machine, so sometimes, i will wash them a second time. i also started using the nellies brightner, since i bought this new washing machine and that does make a difference.
