What is the correct way to arrange three graduated in size objects with the largest size to the back? Should the middle size be on the right or left of the largest size if you are arranging them in a triangle type design?

Personally, I would find it more eye-pleasing with the middle one to the right. A lot could hinge on how the rest of the room is set up. In other words, are you trying to get people to move their eyes from left to right, or from right to left? I think the natural flow is from left to right. I also would not space them the exact distance apart......I'd have the middle one a little to the right or the left. Just look at it when you're done, and you'll know if it's right!

Thanks for that link whitelinen but it did not really address my question. I'm wondering about the set of 3 VPH spheres. If the larger one is in the back should the medium size be on the left or the right of the largest one? That leaves the smallest size to be placed in the open spot on the ""triangle"" so to speak.

This photo from VPH shows my question. I see Valerie puts the middle size to the left of the largest sphere which is what I usually do, but I think I heard a decorator say once, that it should be just the opposite. Not sure?

To my eye, it would depend on where you are placing the display. If you're placing it on a mantel or a buffet type table and placing it to one side or the other, I would place the smallest sphere on the inside of the grouping. To have the smaller sphere on the outside edge would cause your eye to drop off rather than be drawn in to the display.

I would put the medium size to the right of the largest item, if I were only using three items. If using more than three and the three items are same shape you might need to add another item or put something on a riser.

The first mantle looks way too busy. Although I agree with a lot of the designs, some I find too busy and too contrived.
