Question about HP paper shredder

I recently bought HSN's Today's Special of an HP paper shredder. Got it a couple of days ago and was surprised to find some bits of shredded paper already in it, underneath the pullout bin. This was supposed to be a brand new shredder, so why is there paper in it?

One possible explanation given to me was that the manufacturer probably tests a certain percentage of their products before shipping them out. Trouble with that explanation is that, according to HP customer support, they don't do that. Of course, maybe that individual wasn't correctly informed, but if he's correct, then looks like I have not been sent a new one.

I guess it's nothing to worry about (product seems to work just fine) but the point is, what I bought was supposed to be new, not used. I didn't pay for used. I can send it back & exchange, but before doing so, thought I'd ask all of you if you've bought "new" shredders & also found paper in them. Maybe that's just a normal thing.

Re: Question about HP paper shredder

Maybe it was one of the machines used on set during a presentation?

Re: Question about HP paper shredder

I'm surprised HP is making paper shredders now.  Seems like a low-tech product. Does it scan items as they're run through the shredder?

Re: Question about HP paper shredder

@ValuSkr   Maybe they are in the business because shredders sell well???

I started to shop for a replacement a few months back when my on/off switch died.  Not one machine anywhere local under $200 which makes little sense for me.  I had been hoping to support a local merchant or local worker in a national chain.

Re: Question about HP paper shredder

@millieshops  It seems like they cost $100 - or even less - not too many years ago.  For a paper shredder, $200 is terrible.

Re: Question about HP paper shredder

@ValuSkr    At least $100 ridiculous for me.  The good news is I realized my old shredder died in the on position, so if I plug it in, it works well.

This discussion, though, is a good reminder to me that I need to shop again.

Thanks.

Re: Question about HP paper shredder

Though mine isn't an HP, it also had a few pieces of shreded paper; but there was a "postcard" inside the bin that stated I'd see pieces of paper as the shredder is tested before shipping - so no worries.Smiley Happy

Re: Question about HP paper shredder

Thanks everyone for your responses.

Even though I was concerned that this shredder could be a return, I've been testing it out & it seems to be working just fine. I'll do some more experimenting with it, but I guess I'll keep it.

@ValuSkr --It'd be great if it scanned items, wouldn't it? Might help justify the price. Smiley Very Happy
