I couldnt find anything at all that was working on the bathroom sink, to get rid of the layer at the back of old soap scum. If I scraped it with my fingernail some would come off, but sure didnt want to do that!

I got the idea to try the Silicone Pot Scraper I got a set of 2 recently. It worked amazingly well! All of that scum is gone. No harm to the sink at all.

Many years ago when I was a newlywed, I lived in an old house.  The tub was old and dirty. I eventually scraped off the soap scum and grime with single edge razors.  Worked like a charm.

A pumice stone works pretty good, too. It won't scratch porcelain or ceramic. I use pure pumice powder on my porcelain sinks and tub. Makes them look new again.

@SilleeMee   On another note, I have rust stains near the overflow drain on the  front wall of my bathroom sink (not the faucet drain).

I looked for products to remove the rust stains but everything I found contained toxic chemicals.  Do you think that a pumice stone would work for them?

@pdlinda  Yes, I have used pumice stone for rust removal and it doesn't scratch.

I don't have rust stains so I really don't know. My guess is that it will remove them. Removes just about everything else.

I have found a Magic Eraser gets all kinds of things clean. Things a kitchen sponge on the scrubby side won't, but the Magic Eraser works.

Two parts white vinegar, one part original blue Dawn, spray it on, let it sit a while and use a magic eraser.

Better than anything I've ever used on soap scum.

I tried a Magic Eraser and it just came apart.

I have some rust stains on some shower floor tiles; nothing works to get the stains off.....I have never had luck with Magic Eraser removing anything. I have used a single-edged razor on the rust because it is built up in one corner, but don't want to risk scratching the tile..what will remove the rust? CLR doesn't help either
