Question about Don Aslett Mop

I just received this mop today M111616 and I can't get the teloscoping poll to budge. My hubby tried and it turns but that's it. Are we doing something wrong or did we get a defective one. They are no long available now so I hate to send it back and not get a new one but this one is WAY too short. Thanks bunches!
