I bought from HSN a fancy (you name it...it does it) ceramic heater from HSN. I hate it and so does my cats.
It's going back.
So.......I pulled out the good old "RADIANT" blow your mind heater. That puppy draws electricity and puts out enough heat for a football stadium.
No problem......where are my two cats? Why laying right in front of it, of course. They love the stupid thing.
I have to have (in addition to the whole house humidifier) a humidifier going 24/7 or it would feel like the desert here!
About every 2 years I need a new RADIANT heater (I put it in big capital letters for the cats because they love, love it sooooo much.)
I think if I'd let them they'd sit in front of it in the summer! I'm looking at my black and white kitty and she's in total bliss in front of this thing. Sweat beads are rolling down my face and I'm dreaming of a glass of ice water.....bbbuuuuttttt the cats are happy.
And actually I'm happy if they are........

I am laughing soooooo hard.........right this second, Kitty is stretched out in front of the space heater. She practically lives there. (I'm in PHX and we are having an extra-cold spell, and the heat pump in inefficient when it gets down in the 30's). Kitty is such a hot house rose!!!!!

It's usually OK, as long as the unit has an "auto shutoff" feature in case the item accidentally tips over.
You also want to make sure that it's on a steady surface, free from any obstructions, and plugged directly into the wall or a heavy-duty surge protector/power strip.
Also, it should be at a lower temp overnight; the best sleep happens at 62-63 degrees (or lower, like I prefer LOL).

Which brand is that Please? Mine is a Beauty Rest that I love-very low EMFs, but I hate feeling the coils.

I would trust the heater to stay on all night, as long as this is a fairly new heater. These types of heaters are very safe to use as long as they are not set to run on high for extended lengths of time, are a good distance away from anything flammable, and are not used with extension cords. Fires happen with these devices because they overheat from being on the highest setting for a long period of time, are positioned too close to furniture or drapes, and are pulling electricity through cheap extension cords that cannot hold up to the demand of that much power. The heater is not usually to blame; it falls on the user for not using the device as it was designed.

Better to error on the safe side. Remember that the Dyson Heater/fans were recalled because they were melting the plugs and were a fire hazard. I had 2. Sent one back as it cracked and realize now that that is what melted my surge protector. Was too dumb to figure it out at the time, but it was quite a while before the recall was issued. Need to get 2nd one to UPS to return to Dyson on the recall.

Judaline, I think mine is Sunbeam. They have quite a few with less wire feeling (not sure what to call that).

I have an electric mattress pad that I never turn off unless I go out of town. It's been on the bed for over 10 years. I put it on top of the mattress, then a thick mattress pad on top of that. I don't feel any coils. About 30 minutes before bedtime I turn it on high, then when I cover up I turn it down to low. I can't sleep when I'm cold, especially my feet. I couldn't be without it.
I think the newer ones turn off automatically. Now is a good time to buy one because lots of stores are having white sales.
