Good for you for purging in the first place! Sometimes it is very hard to do that and I am in the process of doing that to my whole house - that is my 2015 project which started in 2013
) I usually take my good clothes and accessories to a consignment shop and try selling other things at the flea market. I will admit that there were a couple of items I've sold at the flea market and do regret - but I really needed the money and had no other way of getting it. I have thought about ebay but am still nervous about putting information out there and it sounds like it would be very time consuming. Where I live we have a Flea Market Facebook page and it is like a poor man's ebay. It is totally free and you just post pictures and a price. You then make arrangements to meet the person buying your item - always in a very well lit, populated area - usually Walmart, Target or some other parking lot. I haven't done great, but I have made some money. After this long if you haven't needed it or wanted it I think you would be able to get rid of it. Good luck.

Yes, I have donated very lovely clothes as well. However, I think there is an organization for women who are trying to return to the workplace and are looking for clothes for an interview or just to dress nicely.
If anyone knows of such an organization, please post. I live in the Malvern/West Chester area and would be happy to donate my clothes to women who would like to coordinate an outfit.
Thank you in advance.

Thanks for this post!!!
I just retired and am completely purging my closet and redecorating my entire home! I've been here for 15 years. I want a fresh, new look and now I have the time (and $$) to get my place reflective of where I am in my life.
I was debating how to dispose of all this stuff and thought briefly about the Ebay option; however, upon reading all these comments, I am going to donate everything, and, yes, a lot of the clothes/housewares are of good quality.
Great advice. Thanks, again!

I'm working very hard at getting more organized. Recently I filled 12 large black trash bags with clothing for my DH to take to Salvation Army. When he came home he said the guy there questioned him about where he got all those clothes! Ha...ha...We think the guy must have thought my DH got them through nefarious means or something. Yikes!
He did tell the guy that I'm just doing some serious closet reorganizing.

I am retired now but when I was working I loved bringing in clothing, handbags, jewelry in to work & sharing it with the girls....it was such fun seeing them grabbing for things that often received little or no wear from me!!! What they didn't want or could use I would then donate to local thrift stores. NO, I never regretted making other people happy! (I was a librarian).

Just think when you buy a SG shirt for $50-60, wouldn't it be better to buy some stocks or put the money where it could make a profit for you. We were married in 1961 and put $25 a month in stocks and today it is worth a lot more. Now if I would buy a SG shirt, how much would my money grow? It would be given away or it would sell for pennies.

I do not attach sentimental value to things like clothing or purses, so I easily rid myself of those items that are not useful to me. However, I do not terribly overshop and have a closet full of items with tags still on them as many on this BB say they do. The things I have trouble donating are those items that were once owned by someone I love who has passed like my Mom or Grandma. Some things I can just look at and see them standing in front of their stove with that spoon or utensil in their hand. Those are the things I can't let go of. But clothing that is no longer stylish or doesn't fit well - easily out to the Goodwill.

Most of the stuff I have donated to Impact (a local Thrift Store) is stuff I bought from QVS or HSN and never wore or used. I filled boxes with stuff that I bought and thought - What was I thinking. I bought the stuff on impulse.
I was so glad to get rid of the stuff. It was cluttering up my rooms and annoying me because I wasted my money on stuff I did not use or like. I will be retiring in a year or so and won't have the income I now have.
Impact helps homeless people get back on their feet. I would rather give ""my mistakes"" to an organization that helps people who really need a hand.

Norsky - I'm too lazy and don't have the time to do the ebay thing. Unless it's something one of my sisters may want, I donate everything.
