Has anyone installed prefinished, solid hardwood floors in a home? Do you have any brand recommendations? Or brands to stay away from?

Not sure if they still carry it, but Lowe's installed about 1000 sq ft of Bruce flooring for us about 5 years ago..the installer completed it in about 4 days, including moldings & it still looks fabulous..we just use Bona to clean it..

We had Bruce in our first home and it was very nice. I would recommend it.

I've had Bruce floors in my kitchen, dining room/hall, foyer downstairs and in my master bedroom and hall upstairs, plus the flight of stairs.  Love them and never had a problem with them.  I used a private local company for installation, which came with high recommendations.  The most I've ever used to clean them is Bona.  Otherwise, I just run my Mint or damp mop them.

We installed Bruce hardwood flooring through out our home 36 years ago and it still looks pretty good. I'm sure it will out live us.

We installed Bruce prefinished hardwood floors in our home (bedrooms, stairs, dining and living room) about 6 months ago and have been very pleased.   We purchased the flooring from Lowes.  When you look at the various types of hardwood there are different warranties.  We purchased the one with the longest warranty (50 years I think). 

A couple of things to think about ahead of time – (1) protecting the floors from furniture legs – I used felt protectors on the bottom of all the furniture (chairs, dressers, beds), bought them from Bed, Bath, Beyond.  For the rocking chair I bought a small area rug (according to hardwood manufacturer’s you shouldn’t use anything that doesn’t breathe or that might stain the hardwood so I purchased a cotton/poly rug with no backing); and, (2) I like to do calisthenics which means I have to lie on the floor (impossible with hardwood) so I bought an Everlast Folding Exercise Mat that works really great, lots of cushioning and support.

I have Bruce hardwoods in my condo for 11 years. The flooring came from the local Lowes or Home Depot. The floors are nail down 3/4" wood. I had new trim molding around the walls, doors, etc. I have matching Pergo on the stairs in my house.

Please find a local floor company for this job. You should go online and learn about the process.

GO to a flooring store not a big box store like Lowe's or Home Depot.  A knowledgeable flooring person can guide you through the choices.  THe sales people at most big box stores are woefully ignorant.  Do not rely on them.
