Outdoor Rugs--Do they get mold and mildew on the back?

I want one but I'm afraid they would get mold and mildew on the back and I am far too lazy to roll and unroll the thing and drag it in and out!  Woman Frustrated

So is that a problem?

Yes they can and will if they do not have enough time/sunshine to dry them out.

I found the ones that are thinner and more plastic to be less of a problem.  Even though we have full sun,  sometimes during a wet, humid week I would start to see mold discoloration starting.

Carpets made from Olefin will not mold or mildew.  They do however, hold on to oily stains. Olefin carpets are recommended for damp basements.

If thr Carpet is allowed to remain wet for a long period of time, like in a flooded basement, the surface under the carpet can mold, but not the carpet itself.  I have found that Olefin fabric dries pretty fast.

i have a 9x12 olefin rug on my deck that is at least six to seven years old.  It still looks like new.  No staining, no fading and no breakdown of the material.  I do lift it up during the winter months because we get a lot of snow that must be shoveled off of the deck. My deck has not been ruined by the rug.  Infact, it keeps my deck from fading.

No, I am shocked, I have one and it has been out for four years and looks so darn good still, its one of those miracle buys.

Mine are the two tone reversalable kind that are fairly large and not very expensive. Bought here.

If you clean your rugs, it never gets mold and mildew.

Mine do, but they are indoor/outdoor that look more like carpet than the flat mat types sold on QVC.  I've been using Wet & Forget over 10 years once yearly that prevents mold and algae growth.  QVC sells it.

The ones I have were purchased at QVC are are straw (?) and reversible. LOVE them. They stay out year round, bright vivid blue and cream; look brand new 4 years later. I spray them down with a hose or sweep and that's it.

No mold, no nothing. LOVE them.

@SoonerI have two Veranda Living rugs I purchased here and I leave them out all year round.  We do have a covered deck, but they have been out for at least two winters and I live in the snow belt of Western NY.  I have never had any trouble with my rugs, they still look great.

Thanks for all the responses!  I am worried more about the carpet leaving stains or mold/mildew on the deck than the carpet itself.  The deck is WAY more expensive than the carpet!  Woman Wink

I always buy the Veranda brand of rugs and have no problem with them. The dogs are on them. they get muddy from the yard (nest to the patio) and hose off clean. I don't roll them up any more for the winter They winter fine. No mold or whatever on the bottom or top.
