Oreck Upright Classic Pro 2 Speed

I recently purchased V33117, the Oreck Upright Classic Pro 2 speed vacuum. This is the first Oreck I have owned. While I like the lightweight of the vacuum and the two speeds, I find the vacuum very hard to push on my room size area rug. I have laminate floors and in my den have a 9x12 rug. It is not a thick pile carpet, but more in line with the Royal Palace rugs. Good quality, but not really plush. Has anyone else had this problem? I am scared that over time the handle will break due to the fact that the vacuum is so hard to push. I was just wondering if this is a characteristic of the vacuum or did I get a bad vacuum?

I don't have that exact model, but the oreck I'm using is how you describe. My first oreck glided across the rug. I'm on my second oreck. I bought it years ago, but just started using it in the last year. I have to force it across the room. I have no idea what the problem is. I ended up putting it in the cellar to vacuum up cat litter and bought a shark liftaway. The shark glides along.

I don't have this Oreck, but a different one I bought years ago. I don't have this problem with the Oreck that I have. Do you have an Oreck store near you? Maybe take it in to them and have them check it out for you. Maybe the wheels are too tight?

There have been so many complaints about the Orecks under-performing that I'm surprised they can still sell them. The Dysons and Sharks seem to be so much more powerful.
