Re: One of the odd things that bothers me

I honestly don't worry about other people's houses. I worry more about my own. I'm always stressed about it, I am not the most organized showroom on the planet but I try.

You asked  why people get refrigerators that "stick out" instead of "counter-depth"............well, the counters in many homes have a width from the wall of only 25-26 inches.

There are no refrigerators of that small depth, and who would want one that small  anyway?

I downsized to a smaller home and MUCH smaller kitchen, and I don't love the shallow counters or the fridge that sticks out, instead of the deep counters and the  Sub-Zero built-in fridge that I left behind, but this is the situation in many homes.

We had a counter depth refrigerator at our old house. It was huge. It was a French door with the third pull out drawer and freezer on the bottom.  We are talking about ones that stick out like 15 inches. They look silly. But it’s ok because they aren’t my house. We recessed the wall the refrigerator will go on for the new house. It will look like it’s built in with a cabinet.

I'm not fond of the unframed mirrors in my bathroom.  I wished we would have framed them when we built this house.

@jubilant. It's not too late to add frames to your mirrors.  Check into mirrormate(dot)com.  We've used them with good results.

A lot that's mentioned to me is fine but what I don't care for is poor design & clutter.

I can't stand blue used in home decor, if I see blue it ruins the whole room.

Uh-Oh! You don't wanna come to my house then, LOL!

I live on a island, near the beach and my home is very coastal decor, with blues in every shade!

Not to mention that blue is my favorite color and 95% of my wardrobe is blue!

IG your coastal home sounds lovely. I don't understand not liking the color blue. The sky is blue and that poster hates the sky? I love anything decorated in a beachy theme.

@mac116

When I see those curtains on tv shows draping on the floor a few inches - I think of all the dust it's collecting. I don't like cluttered rooms.

Ha ha, I have to say that this whole thread "bothers" me. Waaay too critical. I'm with the poster who talked about being too busy enjoying her host's company to even notice most of this stuff. If my house bothers someone, I hope they just stay away!

@shoesnbags  Can you see, though, that you, too, are being critical in this thread?

We all have opinions, personal tastes and dislikes.  What could be off-putting  about discussing them, anonymously, without taking aim at any one person or home?  I don't mean to put you on the spot, but wouldn't it be better to be busy enjoying the participation without judging the contributors to the conversation?

After many years of selling real estate and seeing literally hundreds of homes in all price ranges, all I can say is.............look at the important stuff when buying or selling a home.  Location, price, condition, maintenance and repair...........and much else is just secondary or can be tailored to individual taste.

There is no way to cater to every taste or lifestyle in  just one home.  The homeowner who actually lives in the home  should make himself/herself happy where and while he/she lives there.
