My current bed definitely needs replaced.  I'm looking at an organic mattress.  Does anyone own one?  What has your experience been?

What's an organic mattress? Sounds a little like a marketing strategy to me.....

Organic refers to the components of the bed.  Organic cotton grown without pesticides, organic wool, no flame retardant chemicals from boric acid, silicone or phosphates.. They can use natural latex, and the flame retardent usually is thistle.

My mattress is from European Sleepworks in Berkeley,CA. I love it !!!

My matress and slat system boxspring system cost around $2,5000 10 years ago.

It was an extraordinary purchase then, and I have never regretted it.

Last year I went back there to see if I needed to replace it. They showed me how to adjust the slat system to firm it up some more, now I think I have at least another 2 3 years of life in it.

They are sold on the East Coast under a slightly differen name, I suggest you check out their website and then call them.

Wishing you many years of good sleep,

K

@susan kay I saw you mention in the other thread.  I haven't purchased yet (as the house isn't completed yet).

I have looked into them, in fact on keep popping up on the side of my email.  Leaf and Loom I think.

I want one that is not only organic, but if it has to have wool, it needs to be humanely sheared wool.  There was a company or two that did qualify for that.

So no experience thus far, but it will be an organic mattress (and bedding) no matter what.

Re: ORGANIC MATTRESSES

[ Edited ]

Look up Kingsdown dot com; Diamond Royale Mattress Collection

or Kluft Mattress dot com; Royal Sovereign

We looked at both; and ended up with the Kluft.  Had it a little over a year; and it's been a great choice.  No sneezing, and DH hubby's skin hasn't itched at all.

You could also research the lines offered by Charles P Rogers Co

I'd also suggest a magazine called Organic Spa, which has ads for all things organic (including mattresses and futons) as well as personal products; and offers in-depth reviews each month of organic products.

@forest4thetrees@Katrin B, thank you so much for the ideas! Very much appreciated.  It's been a while since I purchased a mattress, but the more research that I did (started with off gassing information), I at least narrowed my decision down to organic.  I did notice that a Charles Rogers' mattress was at the top of the list for one of the categories in the latest Consumer Reports magazine which did a segment on  mattresses.

I will definitely be looking at the brands you mentioned. Even though I did narrow the decision to organic, it still leaves a lot of reading to do.
