Designer Emily Henderson showed the different ways and styles she's used, on one credenza:
It's a nice, walnut midcentury piece, but you could do the looks on almost any console, chest or mantel, of many different types.
Love this stuff! If so inclined, please indicate which style you feel most drawn to, if you do.
1). Coastal:
I can see why she called this "coastal". Dreamy seascapes in oil, check. Twisted branch or driftwood, check. Preponderance of blues and greens, check. Pleasingly simple wood chair, check.
Aside from the paintings, this little woven vase might be my favorite, it has a casual, beachy flavor:
2). Midcentury modern:
I might quibble a teensy bit on whether the dramatic art photo is strictly "midcentury", in the strictest sense-- seems more "Sixties' mod" to me. ( of course, many people think that midcentury covers the period from post- World War II right up to the Seventies, so there's that).
The wood candlesticks and the bulbous lamp and globular blue vase are spot on for midcentury, as is the vintage molded fiberglass chair.
My favorite in this midcentury look is the round blue vase, love!
3). Glam / Traditional
Actually, she started off calling this Glam, then amended to Glam Traditional. To me, it has elements of coastal as well -- (shoreline painting and telescope). The bust, the tray, and definitely the French chair, bring the traditional. The fabulous bird lamp-- well, it could be trad, glam, loosely midcentury, or deco, or even coastal! This style is certainly eclectic, but I'll also go with her designation of Glam Traditional, why not!
The sinuous swan lamp up close...
4). Eclectic
Ok, her name for this is Eclectic, but it could be "Modern"-( because of the striking Cubist art, and sleek lines of lamp and vase) or with touches of boho ( the aloe plant in exotic white vase, the wide-leafed plant in rattan pot and stand.)
I'd probably never choose this string sculpture for myself, but am struck by how perfect it is in this vignette # 4!
So, let's go with her designations, the Coastal, the Midcentury, the Glam/Traditional, the Eclectic-- would love to know which one, (if any) are you most drawn to. And why, specifically. You don't have to agree with what she called her vignettes, just which appeals the most to you, # 1, 2, 3 or 4.
Interesting side note: She revealed that these four set-ups are ones that she did about 12 years ago, and wanted her readers to say whether they still looked timeless. I think they held up pretty well, that way.

I like 2, the midcentury mod.

Lovely console. Too much "visual chatter." ![]()

@Oznell I wasn't drawn to any of them as my tastes are different from those pics.
Pic #1 I would put a huge tv right in the middle of the desk, printer on one side & DVD player on the other.
The draws would hold stacks of printing paper from BJ's as well as printer ink & user manuals.
In the 3 smaller drawers would be rulers, magnifying glasses flash lights sizzors, ink pens, chargers, adapters, writing & note pads.

I'll go for #2 Mid Century, especially because we had a very similar molded chair in beige. It was in the early sixties, I was a child and didn't appreciate it! I don't know what happened to it, but wish I still had it. Not a fan of that large photo/artwork, that would have to be changed.

Didn't like any of them. Think it may be because I don't like the console.

Not crazy about any of them.
I do like the credenza/console, though.
Maybe hang one somewhat large modern painting above it.

Ditch the lamps.

Interesting lamp. The rest is clutter. What is its purpose?

Gotta make a choice.
Do you want the cr@p on the console or the cr@p on the wall?
You can't have both.
