Re: No UPS prepaid Amazon return label but he demanded the package......BEWARE!

Well I would be cautious with Amazon too.......I had a credit card compromised and my Bank advised me it was an Amazon vendor......

wise move, there is too much going on, you would have never got your refund and then had no proof.

I agree since my credit card was also compromised on pay pal when purchasing from eBay.
You just must be careful all the time and check all your statements and accounts diligently, as well as report any type of suspicious activity so it can be investigated.

If its defective, how can he "take it home and enjoy it"?

Well I am proud of you. I know how I am and I wouldn't want to inconvenience the UPS driver and would probably have handed it over to him and just hoped for the best and then worry about it so much.

Thank you for the heads up and lesson learned for this girl.

WillEscapeCAsoon,
Parts are sold off for $ and many are smart and can either fix the problem or get someone they know to fix it.
As far as items defective or broken many things can generate cash if someone is looking to make $ from their own used, or stolen goods they are in receipt of.
Ebay and other web sites are full of items and parts, and plenty people get $ for them.

Hi Cookie06,

Thank you for your kind reply, and I believe in this day and age we all must be very diligent and cautious.

Identity theft and fraud taught me a very valuable and financially expensive lesson, and it took 2 years and a lot of my personal time and involvement, to straighten out with my attorney the identity theft and fraud disaster. His fee was quite an eye opener.

Even giving me a large discount since he handled all legal issues for me, still turned out to be expensive.

The expense was due to the endless hours and research needed to check each and every paper trail if one was available, in order to trace back the entire issue to the very beginning.

Now I am very careful, and try not to leave anything to chance.

"When in doubt I check it out and always rely on my gut feelings, because I feel they are never wrong.

The part of Amazon returns that puzzles me is you just print off a bar code and stick it inside ... there's nothing in the package with your name or order number or anything.

BUT, Amazon does process the refund as soon as the package is scanned at UPS.

It's really quite a system!

Yes the bar code I always print out and place inside the packaging.
They do have an excellent system and I wish everyone had it because it really is a pleasure to deal with them on all levels from my experience.

(Defective or broken items are always picked up by UPS as stated in the Amazon.com email to me above). They do not allow printing from your Amazon account once you check off reason for return as defective.

Today's Update:

The UPS Depot Manager called me this afternoon and confirmed that the UPS fill in driver who came yesterday violated UPS policies, and protocols. In addition he submitted false information which was posted on UPS.com relative to what transpired.

He further stated all UPS drivers who pick up and make deliveries to residences and businesses all receive extensive training and testing to ensure they all understand and know how to legally perform every function of their UPS job, without violating any guidelines, policies, or protocols.

The Depot Manager was aware that this UPS fill in driver also submitted a false UPS work activity report, which was also displayed on the UPS.com web site.

His UPS report stated that he arrived on the first attempt and the customer did not have the package ready to be picked up, which the UPS Depot Manager also said he knew was false since the UPS driver had no reason to go to my home unless he had the Amazon UPS ground prepaid return label in his possession, which he did not.

The Manager said this situation should have never occurred and I should rest assured it will be handled in a manner to ensure in future this type of unacceptable behavior of a UPS employee is not tolerated, nor will falsifying his UPS daily activity report which also displayed on UPS.com be condoned.

In closing I did say "honesty is always the best policy" to which the UPS Depot Manager said yes UPS totally agrees, so on behalf of UPS please accept our sincerest apologies.

He also stated he would assign another UPS driver to come this Monday with the correct label and hand scanner, to handle the UPS ground defective package prepaid return.

Amazon.com also left me a message today that they filed a complaint with UPS late yesterday after I apprised them of what occurred. They were thankful I did not release the item to that UPS driver without any legally acceptable documentation. Amazon stated that they also credited me right away for the defective return, and apologized for the inconvenience. I expect them to call again on Monday to ascertain if UPS did pick up the defective Amazon return.

I must say the credit card refund initiated right away was certainly reflective of the fairness of Amazon, and their willingness to go the extra mile for their valued customers. They did realize time is money, and that honesty really is the best policy.

I don't want to dispute anything you have stated, or insinuate that anyone, you or the driver or the management team member that called you was dishonest or incompetent, but my husband works for UPS, and I can tell you that often fill in/temporary/new employees are indeed not given the training/skills/equipment that they need to do their jobs properly. There is often a lack of willingness among all to accept responsibility for just what goes wrong in any particular incident.

There is a certain amount of employee theft in any organization, and I don't discount that either. You absolutely did the right thing, and were very perceptive to follow all the steps you did with this transaction, up to and including reporting to the company. That you knew what to do, did it , and then shared it with other who would have no idea, is what is really important. Thanks for keeping everyone informed, so they don't make a mistake because they didn't understand the process.
