Many of the homes in our plan the outside lights the builders used are going kaput. So the HOA is pretty much allowing us to replace them with whatever we want, as long as both sides of the villa do the same. Our new neighbor on the other side of our villa is a lighting contractor, so he called and said he'd send the new lights down if my DH would install them on both homes. And since that is right up my DH's alley, he said sure. They arrived yesterday - OMG , PERFECT for us. Mission style , leaded glass, and included in the box was the OK from the HOA our neighbor had obtained. DH is hanging them all today. One in the front door alcove and one on each side of the garage doors, and a fan with light for each lanai, in the same style.DH is leary of going up high enough on a ladder to do the lanai fans so we are having my cousin do those for us. They certainly are very pretty, I'm sure much better quality than we would have bought at somewhere like Home Depot.
Our neighbor said anything we want to replace in the lighting area we could chose from his website and he'd sell to us at his cost. We have 2 questionable ceiling fans with lights DH was going to try to repair (noisy) but now we are thinking to just replace them.

sounds like a good deal to me. Electricans here charge a lot for replacing fixtures. Hope you are happy with them in the long run.

@151949How nice to have such a great neighbor - and new lights too.

It is a win / win - we get new lights for free and next door gets his lights all installed for free. Plus he got to choose the style - no input from us on that. I think he remembered we have mission style in the house, and went with that. They don't really have furniture yet so he went with our style. Very considerate.

How nice that you'll have unique fixtures from everyone else in the neighborhood! Sounds like they will last much longer than eight years, too. Your neighbor is looking out for his investment very well.

Little things like this really make such an improvement and refresh a home.
Since we got all our trees down (for now), I want to get a new lamp post for the front yard. I don't mind the pole itself, it can be repainted, but it is in dire need of a new top.
Thanks for the idea, Husband is on vacation this week. Maybe we will get that done!

@TigrissWe haven't heard anything about the neighbors with all the annoying kids. If I remember correctly, they were related to several other homeowners in the neighborhood. Doubt they have all sold and moved. After all, those "villas" are all in the same "Plan". (Sounds like identical duplexes in a complex to me.) Perhaps those stories weren't as dramatic as we were led to believe?

I'm a little curious about mission style exterior lighting on a Florida "villa." Is the villa not Mediterranean?
