That's a beautiful space. The layered textures and neutrals are very attractive, and I personally always like the high contrast of dark wood with white.

I'm not sure you'd need to add colors on purpose (and I'd even delete some of the oversized accessories). Just living in the room would make color happen. Like, that fuzzy throw you use on cold evenings. Is that your slippers under the edge of your favorite chair? Books with bright covers--the ones you're reading, not ones just for decoration. A magazine or two on the coffee table under your favorite yellow tea mug, where you put it down when the doorbell rang. Flowers in a vase--such nice bunches of brilliant mixed chrysanthemums at the grocery store yesterday. A basket of your knitting--who's that bright blue scarf for? It's a scarf, right? Will you unfold it so I can see it? Oh, and there's the ginger cat that allows you to feed him if you ask nicely. I think he left his red ball over there under the window.

This is a very well done neutral room.  I like it  a lot..... but knowing myself, there would have to be at least one big bouquet of colorful flowers on that coffee table!

There may not be lots of "color", but I think the different shades of the same color make this room something I could live with.

Re: Neutral Living Spaces...

Always interesting to see everyone's take on the posts... I like this one, though it woudn't normally be my thing... I absolutely love the fireplace, the many windows, the dark framing, the beams, the sofa and pillows, floor and jute rug... I'm not sold on the dark chairs and would replace them... From what I can see, I'm also not liking much in the dining area of the room, least of all the trite light fixture... I also don't care for the mantel decor and can take or leave the coffee table... I'd also lose the dark window coverings. All that said, I don't personally find the room 'dark'... Given the lighter floors, sofa, walls and all the natural light, it's light enough for me... While I like the jute rugs, I'd probably opt for something else as a way to introduce a little more color and pattern... I'd love to see primarily rust tone orientals in these spaces...

@KaySD  Nicely said. I enjoyed reading your point of view.
