Need help with choosing a humidifier

Recently I decided to get a humidifier--the Homedics 1.1 gallon top fill one offered on QVC--and discovered that it was definitely the wrong choice. I believe the paperwork included with it said it covered 353 sq ft (not sure about that because it's packed up in the box to be returned). Anyway, I left it running continuously for several days to no avail.

Obviously I need a bigger one, but I'm not sure how to determine the size I need. I'm wanting to add moisture to my downstairs area. There are 3 adjoining rooms with no doors. My only concern is the center room where I spend most of my time. I really don't care about humidifying the rooms on either side--just the center one. I did a crude measurement of that room, and I would say it's about 188 sq ft. My question is whether or not I should take into consideration the sq ft of the other 2 rooms, or just the center room?

Also, if I only need to consider the size of the center room, which is 188 sq ft, I can't help but wonder why the Homedics one I tried didn't do the job since it was supposed to cover 353 sq ft. Could the reason be that it was an ultrasonic one? The ones I'm looking at now are evaporative ones that have a fan. Do they do a better job?

Choices I'm looking at: Vornado EV200

                                      Vornado EVDC300

                                      Vornado EVDC500

Would really appreciate some advice as to which one to pick. Thanks!

1.1 gal is practically NOTHING if you live in a dry (desert) climate!

@qualityshopper  Explain your situation w/the EXPERTS in Home Depo & Lowes.

My daughter & grandson suffer from nasty nose bleeds.  Humidifiers put a stop to them.  Daughter lives in a huge loft like house w/3-4 humidifers throughout.  Daughter & her husband went to Home Depo for help.

Grandson has his own place & has a humidifer in every room.

@Mz iMac --I actually did call both Home Depot and Lowe's. Unfortunately, I must have called on the wrong day because the people I talked to didn't really seem to know how to advise me.

@qualityshopper I posted a couple of links showing how to,choose, the, right humidifier but, as I suspected, it was removed by the mods. Google reputable sites like CNET and there is lots of info out there.

Same here.  Nosebleeds.  So far, so good and we are in the depths of our winter now (I hope).  This global warming is turning us into an Ice Age like we had back in the 1980s.

[ Edited ]

We have a Homedics humidifier and keep it in the bedroom with the door closed at night; it makes a world of difference so I don't wake up with a scratchy throat and stuffy nose. Ours is a 3 gallon; we have a very big bedroom but it does the job. Most owners manuals have a chart showing how many sq ft is covered by the different sizes of their brand of humidifier. I hope you find just the right one. I would just look online and search for what size you need for a specific number of sq ft. That info is there.
