IMO you have to be careful in  giving a too personal gift (like a throw).  Put yourself in the recipient's shoes and say "what would I like for a house warming gift?"  If it was me I would like anything edible like a food basket, chocolates, or fruit.

How about gift cards to area restaurants, pizza jpints, movie theaters, the local hardware store, etc. sp they can familiarize themselves to the area.

The aforementioned attached to a box of cupcakes from the latest bakery would be even nicer!

Maybe a flameless candle. Coasters are something we have sitting out on all our end tables so I'd consider them a great gift.

@eddyandme  Now that's a cool idea!  I bought a new house last year, and I would have appreciated any of those gifts.

@Patz822    A neutral color throw; a book on home decorating ideas; a beautiful candle; a cookbook.

I would give a few kitchen towels and some potholders.  Something useful.

Sorry but I am so over flameless candles.

I guess I don't see a throw as 'personal'... On the other hand, when gifting a virtual stranger, I steer away from food stuffs since I don't know what they like or what dietary restrictions they might have...

Choosing items that we personally like isn't always the best. I do not like cute/pretty kitchen towels or placemats, and I'm no longer interested in house plants. Not trying to be contrary here, but it's difficult to choose something when we don't really know the person. I love scented candles and wax melters, but have given them as gifts and never received any acknowledgement at all!

From what has been mentioned, I think you'd be safe to give some nice, higher end coasters or a neutral throw. If you knew the person occasionally likes wine, then a nice bottle of wine or Prosecco, or perhaps a wine decanter, but again that would not appeal to everyone.

Edited: How about asking your husband what she has on her desk? A pretty dish of candy? A family photo? A collectible? That might give you some ideas what she likes. If nothing at all, then she's a minimalist!

How about something lighthearted?

While searching for my no-longer-made ice cube bottles, I was astounded at the selection of ice cube trays with novelty shapes.

Caught my eye: Titanic/iceberg combo, Casper the friendly ghost, octopus, states, hearts......and so many more.

I wouldn't mind smiling whenever I open the freezer.
