@GingerPeach I like squirrels, (in their place).. but yr pic of the squirrel "sitting" at his/her picnic table, munching, is adorable! Thanks for sharing!!

Short history of squirrels in my area: Several large oak trees on neighboring properties...great nesting area for them and some beautiful birds. Fed everone. Then for some unknown reason squirrels developed an appetite for the wire of the hurricaine fence which then needed repairing!
Neighbors removed trees for safety reasons...too close to houses. This opened the area up to falcons! Squirrels gone along with some pigeon interlopers.
Problem solved you say? Now neighbor throws seed on her lawn and we are herding field mice!
Lesson learned: Nature prevails, we just witness it.![]()

@Kachina624 Squirrels don't have to have access to the feeders. They just take advantage of all the seeds that scatter to the ground.
They sure are cute, but they wreak havoc in the garden. My SO is quite the gardener, and I'm pretty sure they are at least partially responsible for his high BP.

I have been feeding the birds for several years, and we have lots of squirrels too. I just found a product to mix with the bird seed so the birds will still eat it, but squirrels and mice will not. It is called Cole's Flaming Squirrel Seed Sauce. You can buy it on Amazon. I started using it last week and have not had any squirrels since then. I think I have more birds now as they don't have compete with the squirrels. Be sure to wear gloves when you mix it with the seed. It really is flaming hot!

We had to quit feeding the birds - squirrels just took over.
