My appliance store is almost empty !

I knew appliances were in trouble, but I went into my local independent store yesterday and was shocked.  There were three dishwashers on the floor.  They told me they would put my name on a list when more come in.  All the refrigerators were still in shipping wrapping, either going to customers like they were or they just came in.  Maybe 3 TV's on the wall.  One washer and dryer set and not a stove in sight.

Re: My appliance store is almost empty !

@depglass , I am in Nova Scotia.  I bought a new fridge before my caved because I knew there was a long waiting list.  It took five weeks for it to come and this was before COVID.

I also ordered a table.  It came after four months but had a defect.  They ordered a replacement and I am still waiting.  Ordered August 5.

i wonder if things will ever get back to normal?  I am, however, counting my lucky stars as we are healthy.  S

Gosh, I had to get a new freezer late last year, only waited 5 days and that because the delivery people were booked. Then I ordered a desk and chair in November and only waited 2 days for those to be delivered.

I think the building supply shortage is regional. My son had a new house built in a mere 4 months. No shortages there.. They just moved in and ordered all of their appliances and all were delivered upon their first day in their house. No delays. Woman Happy

I had to replace my refrigerator at the height of the first COVID wave when nothing was open.  I was able to buy through a kitchen design company that had access to stock, but I couldn't look around for a bargain.  I just had to take what was available.

I waited almost 4 months for a gas cooktop. The manager of my locally-owned appliance store said that they place orders but what comes in the door is often only a partial order, if they get anything at all.

Re: My appliance store is almost empty !

I agree that our appliance store is so back-ordered that people are waiting for months to receive their new refrigerators or ranges.  What I am noticing more though is the lack of being able to purchase new appliances in white.

We aren't ready to purchase a new refrigerator yet but when we started looking just to get ideas almost all of the name brands were no longer being made in white.

We have a small kitchen and besides not liking stainless steel our preference is white because it brightens up the kitchen.  Stainless steel or black would just make the kitchen seem smaller.

Our range, dishwasher and refrigerator are all white and I'm not ready to just get rid of them and replace each one with a stainless steel variation.

I've lived through all of the color trends, avocado, harvest gold, black and I even remember seeing the turquoise one's back from the 50's but even through all of those trends you could always find white.

Are white appliances so far out of style that manufacturers feel the need to just eliminate them?   Hey guys, some of us still like white!

Re: My appliance store is almost empty !

After my microwave died in early Sept. of last year, I ordered a new over the range microwave, dishwasher, gas range & French door fridge on Sept. 10th.  The 1st to arrive was the micro, thankfully, & then a couple of weeks later the dishwasher.  I'm still waiting for the gas range & French door fridge to get here.  At 1st, my salesman said they'd be here in late Oct. or early, Nov, which then became mid Nov., then late Dec. & then, late Jan.  He said it's due to not getting parts from overseas to build the appliances with.  He said it's really frustrating.

I spoke to my salesman in mid. Jan. & the local appliance store he works for were advertising a big sale in their TV ads & I asked him what kinds of delivery dates were they giving to folks that bought from the sale & he told me they aren't even giving them any delivery dates anymore, since they can't predict when stuff will get shipped to them.
