In February I deep cleaned the bedroom and rearranged our heavy furniture.  The marks are still in our berber carpet.  Wouldn't you think the carpet should have recovered by now?  I don't have this problem when I move furniture on our plush carpet in living room.  Sure, there are 'dents' in the carpet but they eventually come out.

Re: My Berber Has Not Recovered

Doubt it - I have berber in family room and my husband (now deceased) use to watch TV in a wood chair leaning back against bookcase - on the two back legs.  (like our Mother wouldn't let us as kids)    The carpet has been vac'd - shampooed more times than I can count - and.....the dents from those chair legs are still there - permanently.   It's such a dense weave - it's like pounding a piece of metal with a hammer - permanent dent.  Sorry - no good news here!

I have two ideas for you, but cannot guarantee either of them.

  1.  Put ice cubes on the dents, and let them melt there.
  2.  Put down a thick cloth (like a towel) over the indentations, and use a steam iron on them.

I hope one of these suggestions will be useful.

Edited to correct a typo.  They annoy.

@AuntG  --- Check with an experienced carpet installer and/or the place you purchased the carpet.  They may know how to get rid of the dents.

I would try the ice/towel/steam iron too.  It just might work.

That's why people put those protective thing under furniture legs.  Of course that would have been impossible in this instance.  You should have taken his chair away.

You would let the ice melt right into the carpet and padding?  Seems like that wouldn't be good for the floor.

Re: My Berber Has Not Recovered

I don't have berber but more of a plush carpet. I put one ice cube in each the dent and then let it melt. It took care of the dent. No, it doesn't affect the padding. I was amazed how affective it was.!

I agree with fthunt.   Berber is horrible for that.   My parents had it throughout their whole house and when I cleaned it up to sell nothing really worked.   A steam mop helped a little, but they never really came out.
