Pick up a few mouse traps, put a little peanut butter on the yellow part.

A few years ago I had a mice issue. Got in through an opening around a pipe under my kitchen sink. I had 2 urasonic repellents plugged into 2 outlets in my kitchen & they came in anyway.
My exterminator set traps & within a few days they were gone. He also stuffed the opening with steal wool & a foam spray that hardens. Haven't had a problem since.
They had gotten into my pots & pans. DH & I were grossed out. We threw everything out & bought a new set.

he takes care of it all, including other pests like spiders, ants, crickets, etc... he works both inside and outside of the house.
for mice, he uses bait traps and he also uses these blue rectangular nuggets that he puts in the drop ceiling in our basement.
have not heard a mouse yet this year.....thank goodness!
Same here...saw a mouse in this house 19 years ago when we had just finished building. There were still fields behind us, waiting for additional construction. That was it for me. Have exterminator as well but he only goes in garage and around perimeter of the house. Havent seen a mouse since or any bugs...if we do see a bug, he’s flipped over and dead. We arent pet or wildlife people in any way, shape or form.

If there is one, there are more. Just be careful about your pets.
They can enter in unexpected ways and spread like crazy. An exterminator has all kinds of traps, that you may not the stomach to deal with.

I started finding mice in the last apartment I lived in...or I should say my cat found them. I got woken up by a heck of a lot of noise only to find him (he's in my avatar picture) chasing a mouse in the living room. I caught it and threw it outside. I searched everywhere for entry points and filled any holes I could find. I should say this took a few attempts. I had missed some of the openings as evidenced by my cat squealing at night. I found most of the entry points in the utility closet with the water heater, A/C and furnace. I made sure to fill and close all holes. Voila! Mice all gone.
Cats are wonderful because they find any crawling critter or bug. Beware if you see the cat staring intently at the floor, ceiling, or wall!! Here in Florida I occasionally get a small lizard in the house, and they drive him crazy.

Mice can also run in while you unload groceries. We live in the woods.

This is a great excuse to adopt a cat or two! Lucky you!!
Also, you should try the sonic repellents. There are exterminators who use humane practices - they have humane traps and when caught relocate the mice to other areas - like a field far away. You could also use humane traps yourself - I think a well recommended brand is have a heart, but I'm sure there are others that work quite well too.

omg!! i wrote several posts about mice.. i live in an old house.. like 100 yrs old... i went through snap traps.. got tired of dealing with them.. but i did catch alot.. now im on to bait blocks... much easier, all i do is change them every 4 months or so.. havent seen any mice, but i still have them because they are loving the bait blocks.. a few weeks ago, i smelled something in the downstaris hallway, the smell got worse. the guy downstairs asked me if i smelled it.. i told him yes, i was thinking it was a mouse that died inside of the wall... it smelled for over a week! only was real bad maybe 4 days, faint the rest of the time.. well at least i know the bait works... but thats the thing with the bait, you dont know where its going to die. it could of been in one of our apatments... but i went through alot of snap traps, and this is much easier. i would hear the snap traps going off somethimes at 4am it would wake me up! and if you have company you dont need that.. alot say its cruel to use bait blocks, but i had an exterminator and thats what he used when he came... i just continued with it myself instead of having him come.. much cheaper too

They can fit through the tiniest of spaces. I am extremely afraid of mice to the point of being irrational. Spiders and snakes are okay but not rodents.

The neighborhood outside cats keep our condo community free of mice....But you are so right....if a moth, June Bug, or lizard happens to venture in....then its "fun and games" for my 2 kitties.... I have to capture the poor "victims" and put them back outside.....
Your situation brings back memories....one house we lived in as a kid did have mice..... But our Tuxedo cat, Sylvester, wasn't the least bit interested.....my parents hired an exterminator to get rid of the mice.... 😸 I was happy we moved from that place...
