On another post I mentioned I was looking for a new mattress. Actually, I am looking for two-one queen for me, and one full for my granddaughter. We finally had a chance to go try out some, and we went to a place called Mattress Firm.  Their brand is the Sleepy mattress line.  They also have Beauty Rest.  I like a firm, she (who is 12) likes the soft.  I feel like the salesman offered me a good deal.  For a BeautyRest queen, it was a 50% price cut to $800 including a box spring and frame. However, it was the mattress on the floor. How many people have "rested" on it????  The full was a Sleepy soft and with mattress/box/frame for $400.  10 year warranty and several months of trying it out.  What do you think?  Anyone know about the Sleepy line?  Thanks.

I never heard of the Sleepy Line, although we have Mattress Firm stores all over the place.  I'd be very suspicious of prices that are too cheap.

Re: More mattress help

[ Edited ]

My understanding is that Mattress Firm bought out their competitor, Sleepy's.  Each company had their own house brand so with the acquisition, Mattress Firm now sells the Sleepy's brand.  You can probably do a google search for reviews of the mattresses.

Personally, it would bother me to take the floor model.  Other than that, I wouldn't let price dictate if you think it's a good mattress or not.  The true test will be sleeping on it for a few nights.  The sleeper's comfort is what counts.  If you believe it's a good deal, that's what matters.  Several years ago we paid a ridiculous amount (over $2,000) for a Stearns & Foster set that was supposed to be an excellent choice.  We hated it from Day One, should have returned it but we didn't.  From there, we invested in a topper, throwing good money after bad.  It helped, but not a world of difference.  Two years ago we decided to move from queen into a king, I researched like crazy and we ended up with a hybrid mattress (combo of springs and memory foam) that was just under $500 and we LOVE it.  The name is Classic Brands Gramercy 14" Hybrid (available on Wayfair and Amazon  so you can check reviews).  I'm not lying when I say that every night we have that "ahh moment" when we get into bed.  Another family member recently bought the same one and they love it as well.  A second family member is planning to get one in a couple of months.  Ours also has a 10 yr. warranty.

I realize spending $1200 isn't something to sneeze at, but if you average the cost over the 10 yrs., which may or may not be realistic when it comes to the actual life of the mattresses (time will tell), $120/yr, or even $240/yr. if they only last 5 yrs., that's a pretty small investment.  I bet a lot of people spend at least that much annually, blowing it on a lot of random, unnecessary stuff.

Mattress shopping is so stressful.

I spent a lot of time shopping for our last mattress and shopped at a local department store. I got it wrong the first time with a Beauty rest pillow top which felt great in the store but at home it was softer in the center and I hated it. Lucky for me they had torn the box spring when bringing it the bedroom and catching it on the corner of a dresser so they sent the "inspector" and he determined the sagging was indeed a defect and of course the tear warranted a return.

I then ordered what had been my first choice but I didn't want to spend $1200 for the Sealy Hybrid but it is hands down the best purchase ever!! I still can't wait to crawl in bed at night, 3 years later. It is a combination of springs on the bottom and smooth firm layers of foam on the top. Same smoothness all the way across making for a dreamy sleep even at this age where I awake a lot during the night but fall right back to sleep.

Here is the link explaining the technology and I HIGHLY recommend it. Sometimes we just have to spend a little more and as they say we spend 1/3 of our life in bed.

We have Mattress Firm in our area.  I went in once.  I didn''t like the store or the sales person.  IMO, I don't think they're prices are all that great.  I recently purchased a queen pillow top mattress and box spring from a furniture store, Haverty's, for $699.  Really nice set, so comfy.

I agree that price does not mean it is a good mattress. We have bought four of the memory foam mattresses on Amazon for $400 - $500 including delivery. All of them have been excellent.

I almost bought a Temperpedic from Mattress firm. I think they bought out every mattress store in the Phoenix area because there can be two or three in less than a mile radius. I just could not justify the $7000 price or take the high pressure. Instead I went and bought a Casper. Very happy.
