Looks like a loaded furniture warehouse room.

I have lived with long narrow living spaces my whole life until our last move and I can tell you there is no really great way to deal with them--especially as it looks like here, you need a path through them.  That's why the odd coffee table.

Throw in a fireplace, usually off center, windows, doors and cased openings and it is very very difficult to make them work.

I am delighted not to have one in this house.

There doesn't seem to be much "new" to me, except maybe the print above the fireplace and a few of the lamps. Everything else looks pretty much "old"  to me, especially the sofa slipcovers and the buffet/mirror. Looks like a 70s or 80s living room that my favorite Aunt would have had.

IMO, the room is just ok.  Too many couches or love seats.  I would take put the Sheraton table with the black lamp shade and put in an interesting piece.

I too lived in a 50s-60s ranch with long rooms and it can be made to look conversational and group it where it looks nice.  You need the right, fewer pieces and a little imagination and a plan.

Re: Mixing Old With New

[ Edited ]

@jubilant

It has some good pieces to work with, BUT too much furniture, get of the black narrow coffee table in front of the large couch--doesnt go. Id also get rid of the smaller "couches" too much of the same fabric...I'd go with just those blue/gray chairs which Id put on either side of the fireplace, and move that coffee table in front of the large couch...get rid of the leopard pillows too...Get rid of the chair by the door leading into the other room.....

I guess modern/contemporary pieces arent my style... and mixing old/new arent my thing...

I really struggled to find what was "new" in this room as it all looked old.  Regardless, there is not much here I care for except for the room itself.  I'd empty it all out and start over.

Its a long and narrow room, and the furniture placement, I think is good, its just not my style.
