Microwave Experience with Alternatives

Would appreciate input about microwave types- pop out drawers, 2 in 1 microwave/convection oven, etc. Choices are confusing me. Over range does provide vent.

@Twins Mom ......What do you use a microwave for?  Cooking, or reheating?  If just reheating or light cooking, I'd go with a regular microwave.

Are you reconfiguring your kitchen, or fitting it into the current space?  Under cabinet units are most common, but newer homes often feature them under counters.  Others sit on the counters.  What you choose depends on your space and needs.

@ ItsMe
Good questions! Usually use for reheating, steaming vegetables, and popcorn.
Remodeling process and thinking of making it my second oven if it can do baking too.

[ Edited ]

My microwave is a convection/microwave oven and is located above my standard convection oven.  Because I only have one standard oven, I use the M/W convection to cook items when the other oven is in use like when trying to make a large meal.  I've never tried to bake in it.

I have no experience with the drawer type of M/W, but to me the worst location for a M/W is over the range.  It's hard to access and it means that you don't have good exhaust vent for your stovetop.

@Marsha2003. I agree about having the microwave over the stove. First you have to reach over the pots cooking on the stove to get things in & out - possible safety hazard. And in order to have my stove vent outside instead of into the kitchen, I have a very large flex pipe in the cabinet over the microwave rendering that cabinet almost useless.

I think a combo microwave /convection oven would be great. Basically another oven - everyone needs that sometimes.
