DH and I bought 2 Serta pillowtops locally 7 yrs ago. We immediately put memory foam toppers and encased the mattresses. No problems and many compliments from numerous guests. Of course we don't follow mattress company ""replace at 8"" and will continue to use until they need replacement.

Just bought a Sealy, x-firm, in May and love it. It was nowhere near the $2000 mark!!!! I would say, buy local for this type of purchase if you can.
