Has anyone really had good luck with these?   I've read so many reviews and so many that loved it at first but it didn't hold up for more than a year, or got lumpy or or or.    We are going to need a new mattress in a couple of months and at this point I'm sticking with the old traditional mattress unless I can be convinced otherwise.

Bridegal, I can't speak to longevity as mine is just over a year old.  I was skeptical but have to say It is the most. comfortable mattress I've ever slept on.

Just an observation on them, if you have to return it my guess it would be a huge headache to get back into it's shipping box.

My son purchased a king size "mattress in a box".  He researched several companies before choosing his mattress.  Well, he wasn't happy with it and contacted the company for a return.  He was told to donate it locally, get a receipt and they would credit him.  None of the local goodwill/Salvation Army donation centers will take a mattress any longer.....even brand new!

He contacted them again and was told to give it away, and take a pic of the mattress being loaded up and he would receive his credit.  He ended up doing that and had no problem getting the credit, but I would say all that was a hassle. I'll stick with the traditional mattress buying process myself!

My sister lives in the boondocks and had a Tulo queen sized mattress in a box delivered in a very satisfactory transaction. They gave her a 120 night tryout period and it did not suit her within the tryout period. She called to make arrangements for pickup and they sent a truck out to her in Nowhere and loaded the mattress out the door and credited her immediately. No charge for the pickup. No attitude. Very nice company, mattress was not comfortable for her sleep habits.

Mattresses in a box are machine rolled and then vacuum packed to get them in the box, so it’s not expected that the customer wrangle a giant foam mattress back into a box without machinery! The mattress, in Tulo’s case, was picked up flat and removed from her home. They say the used ones are donated. No fuss on her part. It was there, then it was gone.

So then she bought a Casper queen size, also delivered in a box. She liked that one very much for all 100 days of tryout. It’s now 4 years, I think. No change in firmness or comfort, no dip or curve developed, no lumps, no negatives at all and no wear and tear. For her, it’s as good as the first night it was delivered. It has a 10 year warranty. Casper also picks up and removes for free if there is a return within the tryout period. Regular sheets fit just fine. She uses it with a box spring, but it can be supported on slats frame instead.

I’m only offering her anecdotal experience and satisfaction in 4 years with that brand. No intent to convince or persuade. Just presenting one satisfied Casper sleeper. But not me. My sister.

When I need a new mattress, I’m going that same route.

@Bridgegal.  Not to change the subject, but did you ever see the extensive itinerary for a New Mexico trip that I posted for you?  @Just Bee and I spent a lot of time compiling it and I never saw a mention from you.

Yes.  I purchased a QVC house brand, Pedic-solutions, almost four years ago.  Foam mattress in a box.

It was exactly as described and suits our needs perfectly.

I've had a Tempur-pedic for years.  I prefer a foam mattress on a platform.  When I was a bit more agile I didn't even use a frame.  The bed sat on the floor.

I didn't do the bed-in-a-box, but ordered a Saatva bed online.  I've had it two days now and wow, I've slept like a baby.  I actually looked forward to going to bed last night and didn't want to get up this morning.  It's not too soft (hate soft beds) and certainly not too firm.  I guess it is just right.  I researched every bed on the planet for the last year and finally decided to give Saatva a try.  I think it was a good choice.

My son bought one last year and loves it!  However since it's only a year old I don't know how well it will hold up over the long run.

@Jaspersmom  We are considering Saatva and looking at their ZenHaven model as it is a little softer.  These cost $200 to return.  I wish these beds had a venue to try out the bed, but I'm sure that is what is keeping the costs down.  Lots of good reviews on the Saatva brand.  Enjoy your new bed!
