Re: Lysol Laundry Sanitizer question

[ Edited ]

Looks like a bad case of contact dermatitis. My plan is to avoid something like that and rinse away the Lysol product before I handle or wear anything after treatment.

I wonder what percentage of people using this stuff have a problem like that? I would think that if it was widespread the product would be taken off the market.

Re: Lysol Laundry Sanitizer question

I've never timed the cycles in my washer but I seriously doubt that any of my washers cycles are 16 min long. It does a whole wash load beginning to end in about 30 min. If I had a presoak cycle I'd use it with the lysol - then by the time they washed and rinsed it would be gone.Unfortunately - I don't have a presoak cycle.

Re: Lysol Laundry Sanitizer question

If I were to use it, I would either run it during a pre-wash cycle/soak cycle, then wash and double rinse. Or, I'd run it during the first rinse and do a second rise with vinegar to make sure any residue was gone. Vinegar neutralizes so much, that it would be an extra step. With my washer, I can run a second rinse after the wash cycle has finished with the first rinse. It comes to a stop after the normal cycle and I can then turn on the second rinse and add my vinegar to make sure it is clean. I would only do the Lysol product with things that need to be extra clean. My sister's front loader has a sanitizer cycle with extra hot water that we used when washing diapers. I would say washing diapers with the Lysol is good, but with those rashes and sentivities, I wouldn't use it with baby's things or for the elderly unless I did an extra rinse/wash after to make sure the chemical was gone as those people tend to have even more sensitive skin.

Re: Lysol Laundry Sanitizer question

@151949 You could let the washer fill, then turn it off and put in the Lysol to soak for a timed 16 minutes, then run the washer like normal. That way it sits for the 16 minutes to "sanitize" and then you can wash away the chemical residue. You might use vinegar instead of fabric softener just to make sure there is no residue.

I think that's what I'm going to do. That way it would not require any more water than normal, provided that I don't do a second rinse.

@goldensrbest
I just purchased but have not yet used. Thinking of DD clothes since she works as early childhood teacher and handles children and all their germs. Mostly wash in warm or cool because of shrinking possibilities butcesnt germs gone. Don’t think washers can wash as well as those from years ago.

@Twins Mom  I agree - with the lack of a decent amount of water comes lack of decent cleaning. I now do twice as many loads as I used to do just so there is enough water to get them clean.

Re: Lysol Laundry Sanitizer question

To combat the water scarcity in today's washing machines, I always set the loads for "water plus" or "extra rinse".

Sometimes I even run the machine again on the 15-minute "speed wash" setting.

Kinda paranoid about leaving soap in laundry and would rather double up on how much water gets used and not worry about "wasting" it.

@novamc1  My machine doesn’t fill as full as I’d like it, also. To offset that, I hold the button that is used to select how full I want it and it continues to fill until I let go. But I agree, I want my clothes covered with water!
