Re: Luminara Candles -- how long do they last?

@KentuckyWoman

You are not the first person to post here that they have had trouble with multiple Luminara failures. And I don't disbelieve any of those claims.

What I do wonder is how some people seem to have so much failure and others have relatively little or none?

Perhaps some people buy all their candles at one time and of one type, and they are a bad batch, defective or poorly made from the start. Or perhaps they get them all in one place, and that place hasn't handled them properly and done some damage to them to make them fail easily (stored in excess heat/cold/dampness, or dropped the cases, damaged or taxed heavily in shipment, etc.)

At any rate, I have bought the bulk of my Luminara here and one other gift shop in our local area. So far, from those two places, I've been pretty lucky. I do sometimes want multiples of certain candles, but wonder if I should spread my purchases out so as not to get a 'bad batch' as they warranty isn't very long for the higher cost of the brand.

I suppose it could have been a bad batch but who knows. I know several people who have not had positive experiences with Luminara.

Candle Impressions, for my money is far and away superior to Luminara flameless candles and they are less expensive.   I have Candle Impressions flameless candles I purchased when they were first offered on QVC.  I still own them and they are working perfectly.  When CI introduced the Mirage flicker flame candle I purchased two.  They are still working and I have had no problems.  The only concern I have is that QVC seems to be phasing out this brand.

[ Edited ]

Guess I'm one of the unlucky ones.  These are on my "no buy list" untill the end of time.Cat LOL

I started with around 20 of them and at least 15 died in less than two years.  Too old to return.  I contacted Luminara via their website -- twice.  Nothing.

All but two died shortly thereafter.  The last two died before the holidays.  Barely 3 years old.

I'm done with them.  The Candle Impressions I bought MANY years ago are still working fine.

@Witchy Woman I agree with you.  I have Candle Impression flameless candles I purchased probably fifteen years ago and they are still working perfectly.  No comparison in my opinion.

Re: Luminara Candles -- how long do they last?

Have to say my several much older Candle Impressions have outlived a couple of my newer Luminaras. Moreover, I must be buying defective remotes, because those tend to go bad before the candles do. Love that convenience, but then with the timer function I have stopped replacing the remotes for now.

Good luck with yours, OP! They sure are beautiful - love the flickering wicks.

Re: Luminara Candles -- how long do they last?

       I have to agree with posters....my Candle Impressions - bought during the first year offered - are still working. I like that the entire candle lights up.  However, those original candles did not have a timer function, so I don't use them as much.

       I have many Luminaras and had two just die within about three/four months of purchase.  So far, my  other L's are doing well.....

I have six that no longer work and I really take good care of all my things.

Don't know why but no more of them for me.

Re: Luminara Candles -- how long do they last?

Well, no sooner did I extol on this thread my newly-arrived Luminara tall slender taper candles, one of them developed a glitch.  It remains lit, but will suddenly "freeze" and stop the bobbing and flickering.  Then, if you go gently tap it or stamp the floor lightly near by, it will start up again.

I haven't had this problem with my Luminara pillar candles, just the tapers.  Wail!  Love them so much.  Hubby has said he will look at them after dinner and see if he can trouble-shoot.  As an engineer, he has "saved" many a gadget of mine.  But if he can't, back they go.  What a shame!

@Oznell

The same exact thing happened to me with the Luminara pillars I bought over the holidays (my first Luminara purchase after owning lots and lots of CI which have never failed me). Like you if I tapped the side it would 'unfreeze' and start working again.  The ones I bought were sold out so I couldn't do an exchange.  When doing a Google seach about the problem it was suggested that they were out of balance even though they were level and to put a dime under one side.  I tried that and now it works perfectly and doesn't freeze anymore.  It kind of annoys me that I have to do that since I paid so darn much for these candles but at least it works now.  Might be worth a try if hubby can't fix it.  Good luck.

Re: Luminara Candles -- how long do they last?

Hey, thanks, @itsmetoo!  So thoughtful of you to post this suggestion.  We kept trying to position the candle very "straight", thinking it might be the type of problem you describe,

But your dime solution makes sense!  We will try it, even though like you I find it annoying that we have to make up for the deficiencies in the manufacturing process, given the high cost of these items!
