On 2/13/2014 Hetty said: GoodStuff, you are right about finding beautiful old books secondhand. I've been looking around at my local antique mall and at our Friends of the Library sales. I plan to look at consignment shops and our local Salvation Army store. I was on my way out to another antique mall yesterday when the sub-zero weather interfered with my car's inclination to start. After we solve that issue, I will be hot on the trail for more lovely vintage books. Thanks, everyone, for sharing your ideas. I'll keep checking back!
Probably just me but I sure wouldn't want any old books on my table where I'm going to eat...sorry, where have those books been? who previously owned them? where they sick? where were they stored? do they smell?
I would however consider making "old books", craft paper, cardboard, or even making new books old.
I'm just thinking, you're just shopping for these books for decorations, the books mean nothing since you didn't own them previously.
But again that's just me.....I would actually cringe at the table if something like that was in the center of the table.

Kind of a neat idea for a cake. So many images for library theme weddings out there.

What a great idea! Bride could carry a bible instead of flowers (if you are religious) or perhaps a book of love poems marked with flowers for a favorite poem. ( ""Let Me Not for the Marriage of True Minds"" Shakespeare....

Oh - for bridesmades gifts, Kate Spade is having an online sale and she had adorable clutch purses that are made to look like the cover of classic books. I think she has "Great Gatsby" "Great Expectations" and there is another one on her website...I can't remember which title it is...

darcy3, I looked online at the Kate Spade clutches, They are sweet. Thanks for the heads up. Victoria Trading Company may have something along that line, too.
My daughter plans to carry a brooch bouquet made with vintage pins the ladies in the family have been collecting for her. Maybe the bridesmaids and her flower girl can carry books with the flowers. I need to see if I have a copy of Shakespeare's Sonnets.

I love the idea of a library themed wedding!!!! I do not have any ideas to offer but as a librarian, I just wanted to give props for a great idea. I am so jealous that I never thought about it-I guess because I was used to spending 8 hours a day in a library. I adore all the ideas that have been discussed and I love anything with a card catalog or the due date cards, old school library!!!!! Congratulations to your daughter and your new son-n-law!
